The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Olympia Dukakis with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the iconic Pantages Theatre for her amazing work on stage. The ceremony coincided with The Greek America Foundation’s Gabby Awards of which Dukakis is a supporter and Foundation board member. “We are thrilled to add another great star to our famed Walk of Fame. Ms. Dukakis is in a class of her own and has long been loved by fans the world over,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We also welcome more than 1,000 Greek America Foundation members who will be here in Hollywood for their Gabby Awards Weekend events.”

Emcee Leron Gubler, President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, President and CEO and guest speakers Diane Ladd and Ed Asner helped Olympia unveil the 2,498th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Live Theatre at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The Pantages Theatre on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. The event was streamed live on www.walkoffame.com

Long a vital, respected actor of the classic and contemporary stage and the epitome of Mediterranean-styled weariness, this grand lady did not become a household name and sought-after film actress until age 56 when she turned in an Oscar®-winning performance asCher's sardonic mother in the romantic comedyMoonstruck(1987). Since then movie  and TV fans have discovered an acting treasure. Her adaptability to various ethnicities such as Greek, Italian, Jewish, Eastern European, as well her chameleon-like versatility in everything from cutting-edge comedy to stark tragedy, has kept her in high demand for the past 30 years as of one of Hollywood's topnotch character players.

Olympia Dukakis was born on June 20, 1931, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of Greek immigrants Constantine and Alexandra  Dukakis. She majored, in physical therapy at Boston University, where she graduated with a BA.   She later returned to her alma mater and entered the graduate program in performing arts and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Dukakis found early success by distinguishing herself first on stage performing in summer stock and with several repertory and Shakespearean companies throughout the county. She made herBroadwaydebutas an understudy in “The Aspern Papers" at age 30, followed by very short runs in the plays "Abraham Cochrane" (1964) and "Who's Who in Hell" (1974). In 1999, she premiered a one-woman play "Rose", at the National Theatre in London and subsequently on Broadway in 2000. The play earned her an Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama DeskAwardnomination and she continues to tour the country with it. Most recently she was seen on the New York stage in the Roundabout Theatre’s production of “The Milktrain Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore” (2011), in San Francisco in A.C.T.’s production of “Vigil” (2011) and as “Prospera” in “The Tempest” (2012) at Shakespeare & Co. She has performed in more than 130 productions Off-Broadway and regionally at theatres including the Public Theatre, A.C.T., Shakespeare in the Park, Shakespeare & Co. and the Williamstown Summer Theatre Festival, where she also served as Associate Director. She will be seen again at Shakespeare & Co. in the summer of 2013 as the title role in “Mother Courage and Her Children.”

Dukakis married Yugoslav-American actorLouis Zorichin 1962. The New York-based couple went on to co-found the Whole Theatre Company in Montclair, New Jersey, and ran the company for 19 years from 1971 to 1990.  As an actress, director, producer and teacher, she still found the time to raise their three young children. She also became a master instructor at New York University for 14 years. She scored theater triumphs in "A Man’s a Man," for which she won an Off-BroadwayObie Awardin 1962; several productions of "The Cherry Orchard" and "Mother Courage;" "Six Characters in Search of an Author;" "The Rose Tattoo;" "The Seagull;" "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" (another ObieAward); and, more notably, her many performances as the title role in "Hecuba." A good portion of her success was launched within the walls of her own theater company, which encouraged the birth of new and untried plays. Her prolific directing credits include many of the classics: "Orpheus Descending," "The House of Bernarda Alba," "Uncle Vanya" and "A Touch of the Poet," as well as the more contemporary "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Kennedy's Children". She also adapted such plays as "Mother Courage" and "The Trojan Women" for the theater company. Over the duration of their marriage, she and her husband have experienced shared successes, appearing together in "Long Day's Journey Into Night," "Camino Real, "The Three Sisters" and "The Seagull," among many others. Both are master interpreters of Chekhovian plays, and one of their more recent acting collaborations was in "The Chekhov Cycle" in 2003.

Making an inauspicious debut in a bit role as a mental patient in Lilith (1964), Dukakis tended to gravitate toward off-the-wall films with various offshoots of the ethnic mother. She played mom to such leads as Dustin Hoffman in John and Mary (1969), Joseph Bologna in the cult comedy Made for Each Other (1971) and Ray Sharkey in The Idolmaker (1980). Interestingly, it was her scene-stealing work on Broadway in the comedy "Social Security" (1986) that caught director Norman Jewison’s eye and earned her the Moonstruck (1987) movie role. The Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress was the last of a stream of awards she earned for that part, including the American Comedy Award, Los Angeles Film Critics Award and Golden Globe Award. From then on, silver-haired Olympia was first in line for a number of roles: Steel Magnolias (1989), Dad (1989), Look Who's Talking (1989), The Cemetery Club (1993), Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) and Mother (1995). Her most recent film, Cloudburst (2011), has been a critical and audience darling, winning her several Best Actress awards and over 40 plus awards for Best Film at various film festivals around the world.

On TV, Dukakis received high praise especially for her sympathetic transgendered landlady in the acclaimed miniseries "Tales of the City" (1993) and its sequels “More Tales of the City” (1998)   and “Further Tales of the City” (2001). She was additionally seen in episodes of “Bored to Death” (2011-2012),and TV movies “Last of the Blond Bombshells” (2000), “Sinatra”(1992) and “Joan of Arc” (1999). This work is among more than 40 other series, mini-series and guest starring roles she has accumulated over her long career.

Dukakis is a strong advocate of women’s rights and environmental causes. Olympia published her best-selling autobiography "Ask Me Again Tomorrow: A Life in Progress" in 2003, an introspective chronicle full of her trademark candor and wry humor. She is also a figure on the lecture circuit covering topics as widespread as life in the theater to feminism, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and Osteoporosis.  She has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greek America Foundation and the National Arts Club Medal of Honor.

Gubler along with speakers Ellen DeGeneres and Dr. Phil McGraw helped Harvey unveil the 2,497th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Radio at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard at the W Hotel.

The Steve Harvey star ceremony was live-streamed on www.walkoffame.com. You can watch the complete ceremony at the end of this page.

From stand-up comedy to TV, radio, books and the movies, Steve Harvey has established a multi-faceted entertainment and media career since his beginnings doing stand-up in the mid-1980s.  His career has continued to flourish, from an award-winning stint hosting It’s Showtime at the Apollo, and the record-breaking Kings of Comedy tour, to becoming a top-rated radio host, producer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, popular game show host on Family Feud, and 2013 People’s Choice Award winner as “Favorite New Talk Show Host” for his new daytime show Steve Harvey.

In September of 2000, Rushion McDonald and Steve Harvey created the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, which currently airs Monday through Friday, 6 to 10 a.m. EST with nearly 70 radio stations and approximately 6 million weekly listeners.  Syndicated by Premiere Networks since 2005 and also available online, the No. 1 rated show features inspirational advice, comedy segments, interviews, listener segments, as well as the popular “Strawberry Letter” segment, where Harvey responds to listeners’ relationship questions.   Harvey has also released two books, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, and Straight Talk, No Chaser, which have sold millions of copies worldwide and hit No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

On television, in addition to a seven-year stint hosting Apollo, he starred in ABC’s Me and The Boys, the WB shows The Steve Harvey Show for six seasons and Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge for two seasons, and Centric’s The Steve Harvey Project, which showcased Harvey and his Steve Harvey Morning Show co-hosts.

Harvey is currently hosting his third season of the long-running syndicated game show Family Feud. Since Season 14 premiered on September 10, 2012, Family Feud has been soaring to record-high ratings. Harvey’s memorable reactions and hilarious rapport with the competing families have been widely praised,  and ratings continue to surge and smash records since his debut as the new host in September 2010.

On September 4, 2012, Harvey debuted his new syndicated daytime show Steve Harvey, which combines Harvey’s humor and discussions of everyday life covering relationships, parenting, the workplace, everyday heroes and a range of other topics with guests and the audience.  The show has been a phenomenon in all key ratings benchmarks, becoming one of the most successful new first-run syndication launches in the past decade.

Harvey has also hit the big screen in movies such as The Original Kings of Comedy, Love Don’t Cost a Thing, You Got Served, Johnson Family Vacation, Madea Goes to Jail, and the  No. 1 box office smash Think Like A Man, which was adapted from his first book.  The 2012 release quickly made box office history, which features Harvey as himself in the movie and as one of the executive producers.

Born in West Virginia, Harvey was raised in Ohio as the youngest of five children.  Long dedicated to philanthropy, Steve Harvey believes that “dreaming is more important than anything.” Harvey, who together with wife Marjorie are parents of seven children, continue their unending pursuit to further uplifting, educational opportunities through The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, with mentoring programs and other initiatives serving young men and women.  Harvey will also host the upcoming Neighborhood Awards, the 11th year of the popular community awards show which he created with co-producer Rushion McDonald to honor the nation’s community leaders, educators, religious and business establishments for their service and uplifting their neighborhoods.  A man that lives life to its fullest, thanks God for every new day, and always believes in the power of a dream – the future shows no signs of slowing down in the life of Steve Harvey.

David Foster

SONGWRITER/PRODUCER DAVID FOSTER TO BE HONORED WITH
STAR ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME

Watch the complete Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony for David Foster at the end of this page.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that David Foster was honored with the 2,499th star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame today on Friday, May 31, 2013. “David Foster is a master at writing music and he has written songs for some of the most famous entertainers in the world!” stated Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “We welcome this great artist to our Walk of Fame family.”

Gubler and guest speakers Natalie Cole, Dr. Phil McGraw and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa helped Foster unveil his Star in the Category of Recording at 1750 N. Vine in front of the iconic Capitol Records Building. The event was live-streamed on www.walkoffame.com

Before he became one of the most successful record producers in history — creating albums that have collectively sold in the hundreds of millions — David Foster received a valuable piece of advice from legendary music impresario Quincy Jones. “He said to me, ‘If something isn’t exactly the way you think it should be, don’t put your name on it,’” Foster recalls. “His words of advice had a great impact on me, and since then I’ve always fought for my artistic vision. I don’t always win, but I know when an artist hires me, it’s my job to push them toward greatness, and to get something out of them they didn’t know was there.  My personal motto has become, ‘compromise breeds mediocrity.’”

This philosophy has shaped the way Foster has approached everything in his more than four decades as a musician, songwriter, composer, arranger, producer and recording artist. It is the reason why superstars like Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Rod Stewart and Stevie Wonder have trusted him with their voices and to help them realize their musical dreams.

Indeed, few other songwriters and producers have had their fingerprints on more major moments in all of popular music. Foster has created hit songs and award-winning gold and platinum albums for a diverse array of artists including Earth, Wind & Fire, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Seal, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Chicago, Hall & Oates, Brandy, ’N Sync, Boz Scaggs and Gloria Estefan; propelled singers who have straddled both pop and classical styles like Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban into the mainstream; created culture-defining soundtracks for blockbuster films like The Bodyguard, Urban Cowboy and St. Elmo’s Fire; and crafted timeless holiday classics, including perennial best-sellers like Josh Groban’s Noel, Michael Bublé’s Christmas, Celine Dion’s These Are Special Times, Rod Stewart’s Merry Christmas Baby and Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas.

For his illustrious work, Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including three for Producer of the Year, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and racked up three Oscar nominations for “Best Original Song.” In June 2010, he was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall Of Fame. He has also earned a reputation as a keen spotter of new talent, playing a key role in the discovery and career launches of Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and Michael Bublé, the later two he signed to his Warner Music imprint 143 Records. Bublé has called Foster “one of the most brilliant musical minds of our time.” Celine Dion says, “David hears things no other person hears,” while Josh Groban credits him with “single-handedly changing my life.” Says Foster, “I operate under the guiding principle that if I love something, millions of others will love it, too.”

In 2008 and 2011, Foster stepped out as performer in his own right as the host of “Foster & Friends” — two star-studded concert events in Las Vegas that celebrate the music from Foster’s unparalleled catalog. The shows were filmed for Great Performance on PBS and Foster’s Hit Man and The Hit Man Returns became PBS’ highest-rated pledge drive shows of the decade. He is also a household name as a performer throughout Asia where he tours annually.

In 2012 Foster entered a new phase in his career, becoming the chairman of Universal’s Verve Music Group. His mission, he says, is to turn the fabled jazz label (founded in 1956 and home to Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald and other jazz luminaires) into the premier label for singing legends and legends in the making. The label’s roster includes Andrea Bocelli, Diana Krall and Natalie Cole. Foster recently signed Grammy-winning artist Sarah McLachlan and R&B-soul great Smokey Robinson. Foster also has his eye on the next generation of talent, having signed Malaysian singer Yuna and Swedish YouTube sensations Dirty Loops, a virtuoso trio who blend jazz, rock, pop, and dance music into a unique hybrid all their own. “As a musician, artist, writer and producer, I’ve been on both sides of the glass in the studio,” Foster says. “I feel like I’ve been prepping for this new job for 40 years.”

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Foster began studying piano at age four. As the story goes, his mother was dusting the family piano, hit one of the keys, and was shocked when David correctly called out, “That’s an E!”, thus discovering he had perfect pitch. The son of a maintenance yard superintendent and a homemaker, Foster has chronicled his life in the highly regarded, best-selling autobiography Hit Man. The book is filled with page-turning, eye-opening anecdotes — from Foster joining Chuck Berry’s band at age 16 to sitting in Paul McCartney’s kitchen talking to him about the day The Beatles broke up.

Foster has made charitable work his life’s other priority. Meeting with a young girl from his hometown who was awaiting a liver transplant had a profound impact and led him to create The David Foster Foundation in 1985. Its mission is to provide financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. In the past two decades, Foster has volunteered his time and talent to more than 400 charities, including the annual Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night, The Andre Agassi Foundation and Carousel of Hope. Tapping into his vast Rolodex of friends and superstar artists, these events have raised millions of dollars for worthy causes. “My love of music has brought me many rewards, and I feel the need to give back to others less fortunate as often as possible,” Foster says.

Foster’s star  will be located on Vine Street in front of the iconic Capitol Records building, adjacent to the stars of his musical heroes — John, Paul, George and Ringo — a thrill for the self-described “biggest Beatles fan on the planet.” The location is doubly meaningful as Capitol was the label that signed Foster’s band Skylark in 1971. Their hit “Wildflower” became a Top 10 hit and launched Foster on his unending road to success.

Reflecting upon receiving a star on the Walk of Fame, Foster says, “One hundred years from now, my great-grandchildren will go, ‘Hey, there’s my great-grandpa,’ and having a star next to The Beatles … outside the building where I first got signed … that’s perfect.”

Barry White

The Late Barry White Honored With
Posthumous Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Watch the Hollywood Walk of Fame Barry White complete star ceremony at the end of this page.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored today Barry White posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 12, 2013. “People can’t get enough of Barry White’s music and even though he passed away many years ago, his songs will live on in the hearts of many,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We are honored to have Barry White, his legendary voice and timeless songs immortalized on the Walk of Fame.”

Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and guest speakers wife Glodean White and Berry Gordy helped unveil the posthumous star at 6914 Hollywood Boulevard in the category of Recording. The Walk of Fame star ceremony was streamed live exclusively on www.walkoffame.com.

Say the name “Barry White” and you’d be hard-pressed to follow it with the name of any other recording artist with such a huge cross-sectional following.

Barry White was an American record producer and singer-songwriter. A two-time Grammy Award-winner known for his rich bass voice and romantic image, White’s greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with his Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring hit soul, funk, pop and disco songs–one of which is the world-renown classic “Love’s Theme.” Worldwide, White had many gold and platinum albums and singles, with combined sales of more than 100 million. “I’ve Got So Much to Give,” his self-produced debut album was released in 1973 on the 20th Century label. The album was an immediate success, becoming the first of four consecutive White albums to top the R&B and POP charts. It included the title track and his first solo chart hit, “I’m Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby.” which also rose to No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts as well as No. 3 on the Billboard Pop charts in 1973. Barry White’sAll-Time Greatest Hits collects 20 of the two-time GRAMMY winner’s essential songs, including “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” and “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe.”

Other chart hits by White included “Never, Never Gonna Give You Up” (No. 2 R&B, No. 7 Pop in 1973),  “What Am I Gonna Do with You” (No. 1 R&B, No. 8 Pop in 1975), “Let the Music Play” (No. 4 R&B in 1976), “It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me” (No. 1 R&B, No. 4 Pop in 1977) and “Your Sweetness is My Weakness” (No. 2 R&B in 1978).

In 1972 White created The Love Unlimited Orchestra, a 40-piece orchestral group to be used originally as a backing band for the girl-group Love Unlimited. However, White had other plans, and in 1974 he released an album of their music titled “Rhapsody in White,” yielding the now-timeless composition “Love’s Theme,” reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Pop charts. White was the only artist to have a No. 1 instrumental single and two No. 1 vocal hit singles (“Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” and “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything”) on the charts in the same year.

In the 80s, White signed with A&M Records, and with the release of 1987’s “The Right Night & Barry White,” the single titled :Sho’ You Right” made it to the Billboard R&B charts, at No. 17 U.S. and No. 9 UK. In 1989 he released “The Man Is Back!” and with it had three top 40 singles on the Billboard R&B charts.

He returned to the top of the charts in 1991 with the album “Put Me In Your Mix,” which reached No. 8 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and the song by the same name reached No. 2 on the Billboard R&B singles chart.

In 1994, White released the album “The Icon Is Love” which went to No. 1 on the Billboard R&B album charts, and the single “Practice What You Preach” gave him his first No. 1 on the Billboard R&B singles chart in almost twenty years, and was nominated for a Grammy in the Best R&B Album category.

His final album, 1999’s “Staying Power,” resulted in his last hit song “Staying Power.” The single won him two Grammy Awards in the categories Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.

Barry made several appearances on the Ally McBeal TV Show as the alter ego of one of the show’s characters. His voice and character was featured in The Simpsons TV series and the Cookie Monster once portrayed himself as Barry White with the “Crumbs Unlimited Orchestra” on Sesame Street.

White’s music can be heard in major motion pictures every year to this day, numerous commercials (the Pillsbury Doughboy referred to himself as the other Mr. White in a spot featuring one of Barry’s songs) and new songs by today’s contemporary artists like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Robbie Roberts, Usher, P. Diddy, and countless others using samples of his music.

Sadly, White died of heart and kidney failure in 2003.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored television host Jimmy Kimmel with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 25, at 11:30 a.m. at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the El Capitan Entertainment Centre where his show resides. Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and guest speaker Carson Daly helped Kimmel unveil the 2,489th star in the Category of Television.

The star ceremony was streamed LIVE on www.walkoffame.com

“We are proud to include Jimmy Kimmel on our Walk of Fame. I knew that the Boulevard would be filled with laughter on his special day with all the shenanigans that may be going on in connection with his star ceremony,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Jimmy always makes us laugh, and he has done so much for the Hollywood community. He was bound to end up on Hollywood Boulevard!”

Born in Brooklyn, and raised in Las Vegas,  Kimmel began his career in morning radio. Fired from stations in Phoenix, Seattle, Tampa and Tucson, Kimmel’s luck finally changed as ‘Jimmy the Sports Guy’ on KROQ-FM Los Angeles’ “Kevin and Bean Show,” where his popular comedy sportscasts never even got him fired once.

As host and executive producer of the Emmy nominated late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for the ABC Television Network, Jimmy Kimmel is a busy man. Like most talk shows, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” features celebrity guests, comedy bits and live music. Unlike most talk shows, it also features Jimmy’s family – including his cousin Sal, his parents and Aunt Chippy. His childhood best friend, Cleto Escobedo, serves as bandleader, alongside his dad, Cleto Escobedo, Sr., on saxophone.  ABC has recently rescheduled “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the late night staple to air weeknights at 11:35 p.m.

In September Kimmel hosted the 2012 Emmy Awards. Earlier this year, Kimmel was the headliner of the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C.   Kimmel has also hosted the American Music Awards on ABC five times as well as the ESPY Awards.  He co-created and executive-produced the hit MTV2 series’ “The Andy Milonakis Show” and “Crank Yankers.” In addition, Kimmel co-hosted Comedy Central’s “The Man Show,” served for four seasons as on-air prognosticator for “Fox NFL Sunday,” and co-hosted Comedy Central’s long-running and popular game show, “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” for which he received two Emmy nominations and one win for Best Game Show Host in 1999. Kimmel has also served as roastmaster for Comedy Central’s roasts of both Hugh Hefner and Pamela Anderson.

Kimmel’s company, “Jackhole Industries,” formed with partners Daniel Kellison and Adam Carolla, is (but will not be held) responsible for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “The Man Show,” “Crank Yankers,” “The Andy Milonakis Show,” “Gerhard Reinke’s Wanderlust,” “Too Late with Adam Carolla,” “The Adam Carolla Project” and the made-for-Comedy Central feature film, “Windy City Heat,” which won the 2005 Comedia Award for best film at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. Kimmel also served as a creative consultant to Adam Carolla’s syndicated morning radio show.

Jimmy Kimmel is involved with the following charities:  The San Gennaro Foundation, Alex’s Lemonade and CTC International.

Richard Burton

Richard Burton Honored Posthumously with
Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Burton’s Star Placed Next to the Star of Elizabeth Taylor

Watch the complete Richard Burton star ceremony at the end of this page.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce took great pride in honoring Richard Burton posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 1, 2013. “We are thrilled that the late, great actor Richard Burton is honored with his star on the Walk of Fame. We are also happy that his star is next to the star of Elizabeth Taylor,” stated Leron Gubler, President/CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “What makes this day even more special is that St. David, the patron Saint of Wales is also celebrated on the very date of Mr. Burton’s star ceremony,” added Gubler.

Burton’s daughter Maria, Michael Sheen, friends and family helped Gubler unveil the 2,491st Star at 6336 Hollywood Boulevard in the category of Motion Pictures. The star ceremony was streamed LIVE exclusively on www.walkoffame.com for fans to watch and enjoy.

The ceremony is part of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cleopatra, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Burton and Taylor in their first on-screen feature. The Academy Award®-winning film was released by 20th Century Fox in 1963 and will be available on Blu-ray Disc for the first time in 2013 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Richard Burton CBE was a Welshman who was widely accepted as one of the greatest actors of his generation. He was famously married to two-time Oscar®-winner Elizabeth Taylor.

Born on November 10, 1925 as Richard Walter Jenkins in the mining village of Pontrhydyfen in Wales, he was the twelfth of thirteen children who grew up in a poor working class, Welsh-speaking household. Burton's mother died in childbirth in 1927 and his sister Cecilia brought him up in their Port Talbot house.

He displayed a talent for English and Welsh literature at school, though his main passion was sports. His schoolmaster, Philip Burton, became something of a mentor, encouraging him to take part in school stage productions. Philip Burton adopted Richard, who returned to school and worked hard to develop his acting potential. He starred as Henry Higgins in a YMCA production of Pygmalion. In 1943, at the age of 18, he began a six-month term at Exeter College, Oxford, before serving as a navigator in the RAF between 1944 and 1947. After leaving the RAF in 1947 he moved to London to find work as an actor. He signed up with a theatrical agency, and his first professional roles were in radio plays for the BBC and in the film The Last Days of Dolwyn written and directed by Emlyn Williams, Kate Burton’s godfather, and where Richard Burton met her mother, Sybil Williams.

During the 1950s his profile grew, with London and New York appearances in The Lady's Not For Burning, alongside John Gielgud and Claire Bloom. Burton also tookminor roles in a number of British films. His performance as Prince Henry in a 1951Stratford production of Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 1 won him critical acclaim, andelevation into the circle of great British actors such as Olivier, Gielgud and Richardson.

In 1952, his Hollywood career began after he signed a five-year contract with director/producer Alexander Korda, which earned him £ 1 00 a week. 20th Century Fox then signed Burton for three films at $50,000 each – the first was My Cousin Rachel, for which he was given the lead role.  The film was a critical and commercial success, establishing Burton as a Hollywood leading man and gaining him an Academy Award® nomination and Golden Globe award.

In 1954, he took his best-known radio role, as the narrator in Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood, which he reprised in a film version 20 years later. A number of high profile film roles followed, including Alexander The Great (1956), for which he played the title role, and Look Back In Anger (1958). Burton's theatre career was running in tandem with his appearances on the silver screen. He played Coriolanus and Hamlet at the Old Vic in 1953 and received a Tony Award nomination for his Broadway performance in Time Remembered (1958), eventually winning a Tony for playing King Arthur in the 1960 musical Camelot. In 1964, he won a third award for reprising his role as Hamlet in a production directed by John Gielgud. After Hamlet, he rarely appeared on stage, although he returned in 1976 to perform in Equus as psychiatrist Martin Dysart (a role he repeated in the 1977 film adaptation), and undertook theatre roles in a 1980 touring production of Camelot and a production of Noel Coward's Private Lives opposite his ex-wife Elizabeth Taylor in 1983.

In 1963, he took the role of Mark Antony in Cleopatra, acting opposite Elizabeth Taylor. At the time it was the most expensive film ever made, with costs reaching almost $40 million. It was a huge success, and established Burton as one of Hollywood's top earners. Perhaps more significantly, it was on the set of Cleopatra that Burton and Taylor fell in love. Although they were both married to others at the time, their relationship was endlessly scrutinized and celebrated by the media. The couple married on the March 15,  1964 in Montreal, Canada and a succession of film roles followed alongside Taylor including The Sandpiper (1965), Who's Afraid O/Virginia Woolf! (1966) and The Taming O/The Shrew (1967). The couple divorced in 1974, but remarried on October 10, 1975. The second union lasted less than a year.

During his lifetime, he was nominated seven times for an Academy Award®, six of which were for Best Actor in a Leading Role (without ever winning), and was a recipient of BAFTA, Golden Globe and Tony Awards for Best Actor.

In 2011, in the presence of the Burton and Taylor families, Burton’s daughter, Kate, opened the Richard Burton Theatre at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in Cardiff, Wales helping extend his legacy to a new generation of actors and theatre practitioners.  The resident theatre company of  young actors was also renamed the Richard Burton Company in his honor.

Many would attest to Richard Burton's generosity, which extended beyond his family to charities and friends. For example, his early contracts with the BBC, whether television or radio, often contained clauses that waived his fee in favor of a local charity. During his lifetime, Richard Burton contributed to many good causes across the world, ranging from the Playhouse Theatre in Oxford to charitable contributions to the town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

On August 5, 1984, Burton died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Geneva, Switzerland at the age of 58. At his funeral four days later in Celigny, he was buried with a copy of the Collected Poems of Dylan Thomas.
