Al Schmitt is a renowned recording and mix engineer whose acclaimed music career has spanned more than half a century. He holds the record for most Grammy awards for a recording or mix engineer. To date, Schmitt is the recipient of 23 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Trustees Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. In 2014, Schmitt received the Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

Schmitt is a New York native, of whom Barbra Streisand once said, “as a fellow Brooklyn-ite, we speak the same language.”   He has worked on more than 150 Gold and Platinum albums, and was inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 1997 to honor his technical and creative excellence in recording and sound.

In the early days of his career working at RCA, Schmitt engineered albums for such legendary artists as Sam Cooke, Rosemary Clooney and Henry Mancini, featuring the Grammy Award winning title “Moon River,” which also won an Academy Award® for Best Song, and for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

In the mid-60s, as demand for his engineering services grew, Schmitt aspired to become an independent producer. In addition to recording all the last records of the legendary Sam Cooke, he also worked with Ann Margret, Bobby Darin, and Eddie Fisher. He also collaborated with artists of the time including Jefferson Airplane, Jackson Browne and Neil Young. Schmitt recent worked on the completion of the 2015 release of the newest Neil Young albums. “Storytone” and “On the Beach

Although Schmitt loved producing, he realized, as he quotes, “what I loved best about the business in the first place was capturing the sound,” and returned to engineering. From that point on, some records he would produce, some he would engineer and some he would do both. After returning to engineering again, Schmitt worked on countless Grammy and other award-winning albums at Capitol Studios such as Frank Sinatra’s “Duets” and “Duets II,” George Benson’s “Breezin,” Barbra Streisand’s “Back to Broadway,” Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable,” Diana Krall’s “The Look of Love,” and Ray Charles’ “Genius Loves Company,” to name a few. He engineered Paul McCartney’s “Kisses on the Bottom,” album, which won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Schmitt was also featured in Paul McCartney’s “Live Kisses” DVD which won the 2013 Grammy Award for both Best Music Film and Best Surround Sound Album.

Schmitt mixed the historic “The Beatles: The Night That Changed America” at Capitol Studios for AEG/Ehrlich Ventures, LLC, which was nominated in the “Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series” category for the 2014 Emmy Awards.

His prominence was memorialized when he was featured sitting at his post behind the recording console at Capitol Studios in the Justin Timberlake “Suit & Tie” video which won the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Music Video. These days, Schmitt spends most of his time working from the famed Capitol Studios, where he has become a familiar and much-loved part of the Capitol Studios family. Schmitt is beloved by generations of engineers and producers, many of whom he has inspired and taught the craft of engineering. He is also revered by the many artists whose magical moments are captured in the studios. Schmitt is on the wish list to speak at notable colleges, recording schools and conferences. His inspiration and energy to expound knowledge to aspiring engineers is limitless.

Schmitt works with the following charities: NARAS Grammy in the Schools-Jazz Program, Grammy Camp, MusicCares, MAP (Musician’s Assistance Program) and more.

Bob Kane

Batman Creator Bob Kane Honored Posthumously with Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Batman Film Franchise Received Guinness World Records™ Title for Most Film Adaptations Of A Comic Book Character

Watch the Walk of Fame star ceremony below.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored the late Bob Kane posthumously with the 2,562nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015. The star in the category of Motion Pictures was dedicated at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Guinness World Records Museum. “Kane’s creation of American cultural icon Batman is every child’s dream Super Hero. We are excited to honor the man who gave life to this great character,” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez. “Fans from all over the world have been waiting for this monumental day and we hope Kane’s shiny star forever inspires generations of creative minds.”

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were filmmaker Zack Snyder and DC Entertainment Co-publisher and acclaimed artist Jim Lee. Snyder is at the helm of the upcoming action adventure Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice due in theaters March 25, 2016, and will next direct the long-awaited Justice League feature film. Lee, who had the pleasure of meeting Bob Kane, will speak to the character’s enduring appeal and how Batman has captured the imagination of the entire world.

In 1939 in a New York art studio, Bob Kane created one of the most popular characters of the twentieth century – The Batman. Kane’s creation has become the star of comic books, Saturday afternoon movie serials, newspaper comic strips, a live-action TV series, several animated TV series, and several of the largest-grossing feature films of all time.

“I suppose I must have had printer’s ink in my blood,” Kane said of his childhood, “for as far back as I can recall, I’ve had a pencil in my hand. When I was ten, my dad was a printer for the New York Daily News. He’d bring home all the paper’s comics, and I copied them constantly. It got so eventually I could do them as well as the cartoonists themselves.” This informal training led the young Kane to create his own comics. By 1938, he was selling humorous stories to DC Comics, including the features “Professor Doolittle” and “Ginger Snapp.”

In 1939, one year after Superman’s debut, DC Comics editor Vincent Sullivan decided that he wanted another costumed hero. He asked 22-year-old Bob Kane for his ideas. “I went home that weekend,” Kane recalled, “traced some sketches of Superman, and started penciling different costume ideas. It was then that I got my first brainstorm: I remembered one of Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches – a drawing of a flying machine with bat wings. That’s what germinated the idea for Batman. The second influence on me was the hero with the dual identity in The Mark Of Zorro. And then I thought about ‘The Bat Whispers,’ a mystery movie written by Mary Roberts Rinehart.

“I realized I was getting closer. I drew a character with bird wings and called him Bird Man, but that wasn’t quite right. So I changed the wings, made them bat-like, and called him Batman. Almost every famous character ever created had a kind of simplistic, definitive design that was easily recognizable, and that’s what I was striving for with Batman.”

The first published appearance of The Bat-Man, as he was then known, was in the May 1939 issue of Detective Comics #27. Batman’s first adventure was called “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate,” and was written by Kane’s frequent collaborator, Bill Finger, who over the years would make many significant contributions to the Batman universe. The character was so successful that one year later the first comic book devoted exclusively to the popular caped crusader’s adventures, BATMAN #1, hit the newsstands. In that issue, Batman battled The Joker and Catwoman for the first time.

Bob Kane continued to illustrate Batman’s comic book adventures until his retirement in 1968. His work covered not only countless comic book adventures, but also three years of the “Batman and Robin” newspaper comic strip, which ran from 1943 to 1946.

The success of the Batman television show in 1966 brought Kane and his art back into the public eye. Kane was subsequently featured in various one-man art shows at galleries and museums nationwide. He served as a consultant on the 1989 Batman feature film and its three sequels. Kane’s autobiography, Batman And Me, was published in 1989. Seven years later, Kane was inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 1996. Bob Kane, the American cartoonist, died on November 3, 1998.

Bob Kane was generous with his time and resources. He often visited children’s hospitals and donated funds to such organizations as Feed the Children, Make a Wish Foundation, the Westside Children’s Center, the Bay Area Youth Center and many other agencies providing services to the hungry, homeless, abused or abandoned children. The creative philanthropist donated a portion of proceeds from his one-man exhibit of original Batman oil paintings at the Carlton House’s Paul Stooshnoff Gallery to the American Cancer Fund. He also wrote and illustrated numerous comic strips, cartoons and comic books in tribute to Batman with all proceeds to benefit the Child Welfare League of America.

Paul Rudd

Actor Paul Rudd Honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly honored actor Paul Rudd with the 2,554th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The star in the category of Motion Pictures will be dedicated in front of the El Capitan Theatre at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard. Event will be live-streamed exclusively on www.walkoffame.com

Helping emcee and to unveil the star were Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler and celebrity guest speakers Michael Douglas and Adam Scott.  “We are very happy to honor a man who has become one of the most familiar faces on film and television, and who has made us laugh along the way! We welcome him to our Walk of Fame family!” stated Leron Gubler.

Paul Rudd was born in Passaic, New Jersey but grew up primarily in Kansas City, MO.  He studied theater at the University of Kansas and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.  After graduating, he landed his first real acting job playing a recurring character on the TV show “Sisters.” But it wasn’t until he played the part of Josh in the movie “Clueless” that audiences thrust him into the category of ‘that guy’ actor. Soon after “Clueless,” he was recognized as ‘that guy’ in “The Cider House Rules,”“Romeo and Juliet” and several other indie films. As a New York resident, he also performed in several Broadway productions. Rudd worked steadily for many years, before being cast as Brian Fantana in the movie “Anchorman.”  That proved to be a seminal movie in Rudd’s career because it started not only a steady run of comedy hits, but also a transition from just being a "that guy" actor to ‘that guy' who does all those Judd Apatow movies.

Rudd will next be seen as the superhero character in Marvel’s highly anticipated “Ant-Man,” directed by Peyton Reed. The film also stars Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll, and will be released on July 17, in U.S. theaters. The film premiere was held in Hollywood on Monday, June 29.

Rudd recently finished filming Rob Burnett’s “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving,” which is based on Jonathan Evison’s novel of the same name, opposite Selena Gomez and Craig Roberts.

In 2013, Rudd successfully reprised the role of Brian Fantana, starring once again opposite Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and David Koechner in Adam McKay’s “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” for Paramount Pictures.  “Anchorman 2” grossed over $170-million worldwide and received a People’s Choice Award nomination for Favorite Year End Movie, as well as two MTV Movie Award nominations. Rudd’s other film credits include such popular hit movies as “Knocked Up,” “This Is 40,” “Role Models,” “Wanderlust,” “ Our Idiot Brother,”  “I Love You, Man,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” “Clueless,” “Romeo + Juliet,” “Wet Hot American Summer,” “The Object of My Affection,” “They Came Together,” “Prince Avalanche,” “Admission,” “Monsters Vs. Aliens,” “The Ten,” “Night at the Museum,” and many others.

Jeff Lynne

ROCK ARTIST JEFF LYNNE HONORED WITH
STAR ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME

Watch these messages and Jeff Lynne Walk of Fame star ceremony below

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly honored prolific singer, songwriter and producer Jeff Lynne with the 2,548th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The star in the category of Recording was dedicated at 1750 N. Vine Street in front of the iconic Capitol Records building where the stars of Lynne’s friends and co-musicians The Beatles and Roy Orbison are cemented. “Jeff Lynne is one of the premier musicians of his time! With longevity and decades of his magical artistry, Lynne has captivated fans with his distinctive style and very memorable sounds,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We are thrilled to add his name to our famed Walk of Fame next to his musical peers.”

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were Tom Petty and Joe Walsh.

Born and raised in Shard End, Birmingham, England Lynne has been bringing music to fans in his home country and around the world for nearly four decades. He came to prominence as the leader and creative force of Electric Light Orchestra—better known by its initials, ELO. With ELO, he scored many hits throughout the 1970s, including “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” “Livin’ Thing,” and “Don’t Bring Me Down” to name a few.

Electric Light Orchestra is one of the most remarkable success stories in rock history. ELO has sold over 50-million records worldwide, and continues to be a remarkably popular catalog. Between 1972 and 1986, Lynne wrote and produced 26 Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom, and 20 Top 40 hits in the United States.

Lynne eventually went on to concentrate on production and songwriting work for fellow major stars, former Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison. He resurfaced as a performer in 1988, when he became a Grammy-award winning member of the Traveling Wilburys.

One thing that has made the past few years thrilling times for Jeff Lynne fans is that the man himself has been busy working in the studio—his natural environment—and increasingly onstage as well to bring Jeff Lynne’s ELO back to life for generations of fans all around the world. The love for Lynne’s musical genius was vividly apparent in September 2014 when ELO headlined BBC Radio2’s Hyde Park festival, the first time in almost 30 years that they’d been on a festival stage. The 50,000 fans in attendance sang along in joyous rapture with every word. More than 800,000 people tuned in to BBC’s “Red Button” to watch the show.

In 2015, Lynne made a surprise performance with Ed Sheeran at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Lynne’s contemporaries Paul McCartney and artists like Taylor Swift danced exuberantly in the aisles. Lynne’s high profile Grammy Awards appearance came nearly a year to the day after his wildly acclaimed performance at the televised Grammy salute to The Beatles, at which Lynne took his rightful place honoring his heroes and friends as he performed alongside Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh and Dhani Harrison. This exciting re-emergence also coincided with Lynne’s music—both vintage and new—being featured prominently in director David. O. Russell’s acclaimed film “American Hustle.”

In his own powerful but humble way, Jeff Lynne has been making waves all over the world for most of his musical life—a fact memorably documented in the acclaimed 2012 documentary Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne & ELO.

In 2012, Lynne returned to make waves all over again with Long Wave. Lynne’s extraordinary latest solo album found this remarkable artist recording some of the great popular songs that first inspired his lifelong and enduring love affair with popular music. The songs that Jeff Lynne revisited on Long Wave are some of the great songs that inspired him to go on to write his modern standards like, “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Showdown,” “Livin’ Thing,” “Do Ya,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” and “Telephone Line.”

Long Wavearrived as Lynne was also bringing his fans Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra, an altogether stunning volume featuring new versions of his past ELO smashes.

Over the years, Lynne produced and collaborated with many of the greatest musical artists of all time, including Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and The Beatles themselves. He has also collaborated with such contemporaries as Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose latest album Analog Man Lynne helped produce. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, Lynne is a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys—a super group like no other.

The undeniable fact is that with Electric Light Orchestra, Jeff Lynne brought the world a different sound that still sounds modern, relevant and great.

Lynne is involved with such organizations as St. Jude Research Hospital, MUSICARES and H.E.A.R.T. (Helping Ease Abuse Related Trauma).
