Hollywood’s Got A Friend
Legendary Songwriter Carole King Honored with
Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Watch the complete LIVE Walk of Fame star ceremony below.

Star Ceremony Coincides with “A Celebration of Carole King and Her Music” Benefit for Paul Newman’s The Painted Turtle Camp

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored the legendary Carole King, one of the music world’s most prolific songwriters, with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6906 Hollywood Boulevard across the street from The Dolby Theatre. “Carole has written numerous songs that are ingrained in the hearts of many and conger up great memories of times past,” said Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO.

Gubler and celebrity guests Kristin Chenoweth and Lou Adler helped King unveil the 2,486th Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Recording on December 3, 2012.

Singer, songwriter, Carole King was born on February 9, 1942 in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn.  King's amazing musical gift was apparent from the time she was a toddler. Already an accomplished pianist by the time she turned 10, King began writing a multitude of songs by her early teens.  She wrote her first #1 hit at the tender age of 17, penning “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” for the Shirelles with then-husband Gerry Goffin. The dozens of chart hits Goffin and King wrote during this period have become part of music legend, but it was 1971’s Tapestry that took King to the pinnacle. It spoke personally to every one of her contemporaries and provided the spiritual musical backdrop to the decade. While King was in the studio recording Tapestry, James Taylor recorded King’s “You’ve Got a Friend,” taking the song all the way to #1. In a first for a female writer/artist, Tapestry won all three of the key Grammy Awards—record, song and album of the year—as well as best female vocalist honors for King. With more than 25 million units sold, Tapestry remained the best-selling album by a female artist for a quarter century, and King went on to amass three other platinum and seven gold albums.

King and Goffin were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 as songwriters and were honored by The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 2004 with the GRAMMY Trustees’ Award.

King was nominated for an Emmy award in 2000 for “Song of Freedom”.  She was awarded the Songwriter Hall of Fame Mercer Founder Award in 2002.   In 2004 the Library of Congress named Tapestry to the National Recording Registry, which deems sound recordings to be culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.   At the end of the 20th Century, King was named one of the “100 Most Important Women in Rock” by VH1 and was included on virtually everyone’s list of the Most Important Artists / Women / Songs /and Albums of Rock and Roll.

The crowning glory of King’s last half-decade was in April 2012, with the publication of her memoir, A Natural Woman. It debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #6 and prompted Vanity Fair to say, “America is having a Carole King moment.” As a companion to Carole’s life story, Concord/Hear music released The Legendary Demos with 13 previously unreleased demo recordings, featuring some of her most celebrated songs from 1960-1970. The album is made up of original recordings featuring future standards “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “It’s Too Late,” and “You’ve Got A Friend.”

To date, more than 400 of her compositions have been recorded by more than 1,000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles. She has won countless awards during her  50 + year career. Now 70 and still full of life, Carole King is, without question, the most successful and revered female songwriter in pop music history.

In addition to her continuously-evolving musical career, King, who has lived on an Idaho ranch since the early ’80s, is actively involved with environmental organizations in support of forest wilderness preservation.

*Carole King, Alicia Keys, Amy Grant,  Herb Alpert, John Legend, Katy Perry, Lani Hall,   Darlene Love, Jesse McCartney and Vince Gill will perform at a star-studded evening being billed as “You’ve Got a Friend…A Celebration of Carole King and Her Music” to benefit Paul Newman’s The Painted Turtle camp.  The event is being co-hosted by Quincy Jones and Jack Nicholson.  The magical evening of performances will be held at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on December 4, 2012.  Ticket sales for the evening, produced by Lou Adler and Kevin Duncan and sponsored by Clear Channel Media & Entertainment Los Angeles and iHeartRadio, are on sale now at www.dolbytheatre.com.

Vince Gill

Hollywood Chamber honors Vince Gill Honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame
His Stellar Award Is One Star Away From His Wife Amy Grant’s Star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly honored Vince Gill today, September 6, 2012, with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “We are proud to honor one of Country music’s most popular singers and we are so happy to say that we will be placing his star next to the star of his lovely wife Amy Grant,” stated Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez. Grant was on hand to speak at the ceremony along with music producer Tony Brown and singer Reba McEntire.

Emcee Leron Gubler, President/CEO of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and guest speakers wife Amy Grant, Tony Brown and Reba McCentire helped Gill unveil the 2,478th Star in the Category of Recording at 6901 Hollywood Boulevard next to Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Blvd.

Vincent Grant Gill was born April 12, 1957 in Norman, Okla. His mother and father encouraged him to learn to play guitar and banjo, which he did along with bass, mandolin, dobro and fiddle. While in high school, he performed in the bluegrass band Mountain Smoke, which built a strong local following and opened a concert for Pure Prairie League.

After graduating high school in 1975, Gill moved to Louisville, Ky. to be part of the band Bluegrass Alliance. After a brief time in Ricky Skaggs’s Boone Creek band, Gill moved to Los Angeles and joined Sundance, a bluegrass group fronted by fiddler Byron Berline. In 1979, he joined Pure Prairie League as lead singer and recorded three albums with the band, the first of which yielded the Top Ten pop hit “Let Me Love You Tonight” in 1980. Departing the group in 1981, Gill joined Rodney Crowell’s backing band the Cherry Bombs, where he met and worked with Tony Brown and Emory Gordy Jr., both of whom would later produce many of his future solo albums.

In 1983, Gill signed with RCA Records and moved to Nashville to pursue his dream of being a Country Music artist. His debut mini-album Turn Me Loose (produced by Gordy) was released the following year, featuring his first charting solo single, “Victim of Life’s Circumstance.”

Gill signed with MCA Records in 1989, reuniting with Brown as a producer, and released the album When I Call Your Name. While the debut single “Oklahoma Swing” (a duet with Reba McEntire) reached the Top 20, it was the title cut that firmly established the singer as a new force on the Country Music scene. The song peaked at No. 2 and earned Gill his first CMA Award (Single of the Year) and his first Grammy Award (Best Male Country Vocal Performance) in 1990. The next single, “Never Knew Lonely,” peaked at No. 3 and the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than one million copies.

Vince Gill co-hosted the CMA Awards for the first time in 1992. He continued to host “Country Music’s Biggest Night™” for 12 consecutive years, ending his run in 2003. Gill not only set a record for the most times anyone has consecutively hosted a televised award show, but he set the bar for other television awards emcees with his respect for his peers and the audience, quick ad libs and gentle humor.

Gill recorded his first Christmas album Let There Be Peace on Earth in 1993, before releasing When Love Finds You in 1994. This album also sold more than four million copies and featured six hits including the title cut, “What the Cowgirls Do,” “Whenever You Come Around,” “Which Bridge to Cross (Which Bridge to Burn),” “You Better Think Twice” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Becoming an in-demand duet partner, Gill sang with Amy Grant on “House of Love,” the title cut of her 1994 album which became a hit on adult contemporary radio stations, and with Dolly Parton on a duet version of her signature “I Will Always Love You” earning the duo the CMA Vocal Event of the Year Award 1996.  His status as an in-demand duet partner continued with his 1999 duet “If You Ever Leave Me” with Barbra Streisand on the latter’s album A Love Like Ours.

Gill married singer Amy Grant in 2000, and released Let’s Make Sure We Kiss Goodbye that same year. The album celebrated his new relationship and featured the hit “Feels Like Love.”  Three years later, Gill released Next Big Thing, his first solo-produced album, featuring the title cut and “Young Man’s Town.” He reunited with Rodney Crowell, Tony Brown, Richard Bennett and Hank Devito (as well as new additions Eddie Bayers, John Hobbs and Michael Rhodes) as the Notorious Cherry Bombs, and the supergroup released an album in 2004 on Universal South Records featuring the single “It’s Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night that Chew Your Ass Out All Day Long.”

In 2010, Gill became a member of the Western swing/country group The Time Jumpers.  Formed in 1998 by a group of Nashville’s recording studio elite, the band began just as a jam session for the musicians to blow off steam and play their favorite songs.   On any given Monday, stars such as Reba McEntire, Bonnie Raitt , Norah Jones, Toby Keith, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello and even Robert Plant have been known to pull up a chair and sit in with the band.   In 2007, the group recorded a live album titled Jumpin' Time that was nominated for two Grammy® awards.  The Time Jumpers first studio album will be released by Rounder Records on September 11.

Gill has sold more than 26 million albums. He has earned 18 CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year in 1993 and 1994. He is tied with George Strait for having won the most CMA Male Vocalist Awards (five), and is currently third only to George Strait and Brooks and Dunn for accumulating the most CMA Awards in history. Gill is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and has received 20 Grammy Awards to date, the most of any male Country artist. An avid golfer, he helped create the annual Vince Gill Pro-Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament (“The Vinny”) in 1993 in order to help support junior golf programs throughout Tennessee. Besides being known for his talent as a performer, musician and songwriter, Gill is regarded as one of Country Music’s best known humanitarians, participating in hundreds of charitable events throughout his career.  In 2006, The Academy of Country Music named Gill their Humanitarian of The Year.

In August of 2007, the Country Music Association inducted Gill as the newest member of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame.  Gill is the third artist inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between 1975 and the Present" category, which was created in 2005.

Ellen K

Radio Personality Ellen K Honored with
Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce  honored radio personality Ellen K on Thursday, May 10, 2012 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard in front of The W Hollywood Hotel. “The Chamber is proud to honor a radio personality who has become known nationally and around the world by keeping us all informed on what is happening in the world of entertainment,” stated Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Emcee Leron Gubler, President/CEO of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, guest speakers Miranda Cosgrove, Kris Jenner and Ryan Seacrest helped Ellen unveil the 2,471st Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Category of Radio.

Born at the Stanford University hospital, Ellen K, the youngest of six Norwegian children, grew up in a quiet, academic environment-very different from the one she thrives in today with multi-media mogul Ryan Seacrest.  Ellen's father, who earned his PHD at Stanford University, accepted a job as a Professor of Mathematics at Purdue University and moved the family to Indiana.  At 4, Ellen began competitively swimming which led to "early morning" practices.  Those early mornings would later prove useful training for "early morning radio”.  While captain of the swim team and home coming queen, Ellen showed her multi-tasking mindset early-on by also accepting an internship at a local radio station after graduating from Purdue University. From the moment Ellen began talking to listeners on air about their lives— she was hooked!

Ellen was recruited to radio jobs in San Diego, then San Francisco, and finally to the #1 radio market in the world-Los Angeles & KIIS FM. Clear Channel's "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" is heard worldwide on 175+ affiliates in the US and 15 foreign countries. The daily syndicated radio show is also heard on the rapidly expanding iheartradio app and XM/Sirius. (The full station affiliate map is detailed at ellenk.com).

From landing a gig on-air with legendary Rick Dees and being a part of 12 Billboard & Marconi Radio Awards at KIIS FM, to partnering with  Ryan Seacrest, Ellen recognizes the invaluable support of friends, family, co-workers, management and key celebrities that opened doors along the way to her exciting career.

Ellen’s relaxed manner in front of a camera and behind a microphone has also landed her many assignments on TV. Ellen had the privilege of working alongside Wayne Brady as his on camera sidekick/announcer on the Emmy award winning "Wayne Brady Show" on ABC, all while holding down a correspondent role for Extra and continuing "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" every morning on KIIS FM.  Ellen’s multimedia approach continues today as she hosts  "Ellen K’s Inside Hollywood" daily on KTLA, serves as the announcer for the Grammys on CBS, the SAG Awards on TNT& TBS, "A Home for the Holidays" on CBS, cameos on “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and “Days of Our Lives“ as well as the Emmy nominated "Oscar Red Carpet Live" special on KTLA.  Currently, you can hear Ellen as the narrator for the UK smash hit "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" and the new "My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding" on TLC.

Ellen K is showcased weekly as the host and executive producer of a “Hollywood Preview & Daily Deal” program at velvetredtv.com and can be heard “on demand” with a fresh "60 Seconds of Sleaze” audio alert served to the smartphone (a joint venture with the Global Traffic & Audio Alert Network).

Finally, Ellen signed-on to author a book slated for release in 2013 that dramatizes the multi-tasking duties of a working mom in Hollywood titled, "The MommyWood Mindset"

Ellen is involved with the following charities:  John Wayne Cancer Institute, CHOC Children’s Hospital, Pediatric AIDS Foundation, APLA and "Our Journey", an African Children’s relief fund.

Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Legendary Album
“Hot August Night”
With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

See the live ceremony here at the end of  this page.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly dedicated a Walk of Fame star for legendary singer/songwriter Neil Diamond today, August 10, 2012. “We finally were able to pin him down for a date to dedicate his star. This is one busy man and we are thrilled to honor this legendary performer,” stated Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez.

Emcee and Hollywood Walk of Fame Chairman David Green, former Chamber Chairman of the Board Bill Farrar and Councilman Eric Garcetti and Walk of Famer speaker Randy Newman helped Neil Diamond unveil 2,475th Star in the Category of Recording.at 1750 N. Vine Street in front of the iconic Capitol Records Building.

Neil Diamond’s eclectic and universally beloved songs—as well as his charismatic and openhearted performances of them—continue to make him an international force both as a record maker and a live entertainer as he continuously sells out major arenas and venues around the world.  Diamond has a remarkable track record of 16 Top Ten albums and 37 Top Ten singles.  This Grammy-winning artist rock icon has been a Kennedy Center honoree, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. Among Diamond’s many other notable honors, he has received a Golden Globe Award, thirteen Grammy nominations and was named the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year.

This man, who has already sold more than 125 million records around the world, was raised in Brooklyn, New York. After attending high school—where he sang in the school choir with future duet partner Barbra Streisand, Diamond went on to study at New York University as a pre-med student on a fencing scholarship.

Ultimately it was Diamond’s overriding, lifelong passion for making music that would trump his interest in fencing or the healing arts.  So Diamond put down his sword and scalpel, picked up his trusty guitar and left NYU just short of graduation, putting everything on the line to pursue his dream of writing songs for a living.

Diamond caught the eye of top songwriting team Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, who were among the hottest songwriters in the world at the time, having co-written such classics as “Be My Baby,” “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “And Then He Kissed Me,” “Chapel of Love” and “River Deep, Mountain High,” as well as “Hanky Panky” and “Leader of The Pack.”

Soon Diamond was meeting with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller who were the owners of the publishing company that Barry and Greenwich were writing for.  Before he knew it, he had a one year contract to write for their company with a guaranteed salary of $150 a week!

One year later—having written what he himself calls “maybe half a dozen mediocre songs,” Diamond was let go from his contract with Leiber and Stoller.  Teaming with Barry and Greenwich, Diamond formed a publishing company to own the copyrights to his songs and pursued a record deal as a recording artist. Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records heard something in Diamond and offered him a deal with one of Atlantic’s new labels, Bang Records.

Fittingly, Diamond’s career now took off with a real bang, as he came into his own with a series of hits that began with “Solitary Man”—a song that would forever define his persona as a singular figure in music. As an American solo artist during a time when British groups were all the rage in the wake of Beatlemania, Diamond stood out from the pack.

Diamond’s next hit, was “Cherry, Cherry.” Suddenly, Diamond found himself in great demand as an artist and a songwriter, especially after the Monkees had #1 and #2 hits, respectively, with his compositions “I’m A Believer” and “Little Bit Me. Little Bit You.” Many more hits like “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon,” “Thank The Lord For The Night Time” and “Kentucky Woman” would follow during Diamond’s two years recording for Bang, but ultimately when the label refused to release his powerfully introspective song “Shilo” as a single, he would choose to leave the company and New York behind, signing to MCA’s Uni Records in Los Angeles where he was assured the sort of artistic freedom he sought.

Over the next five years, Diamond would further demonstrate his growing musical range as he recorded some of his greatest and most beloved compositions ever, including such popular standards as “Brooklyn Roads, “Sweet Caroline, “ “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show,” “Cracklin’ Rose,”  “I Am. . . I Said” and “Song Sung Blue.”   In the summer of 1971, Diamond had played seven sold-out nights at the famed Greek Theatre in Los Angeles to a rapturous reception.

The following August, he returned for ten more sold-out shows, an event forever captured on the multi-platinum Hot August Night, a double-record set that demonstrated once and for all Diamond’s growing status as a superstar concert sensation. The Hot August Night 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition was recently released last month.

In 1977, Diamond returned to the Greek Theatre to record Love At The Greek, another massively popular live album, with a successful TV special of the performance to follow. That same year, the I’m Glad You’re Here With Me Tonight album would bring the world another one of Diamond’s biggest hits ever—“You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”—which was re-recorded as a globally popular duet with Barbara Streisand. After releasing 1979’s September Morn, Diamond would kick off the Eighties with The Jazz Singer, the multi-platinum soundtrack to his big screen debut that found Diamond co-starring with Lawrence Olivier and Lucie Arnaz. The Jazz Singer album also spotlighted three of Diamond’s most popular songs ever—“Hello Again,” “Love On The Rocks” and “America,” the very American standard inspired by the journey made by Diamond’s own grandparents.

In  2005, Diamond released 12 Songs, his first album with acclaimed rock producer Rick Rubin.  The album entered the charts at #4, which at the time, was Diamond’s highest-ever debut on the BillboardTop 200.  This album, as well as his 2008 release of Home Before Dark, his second effort with Rubin, garnered some of the best reviews of his life.  Home Before Dark also debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts…Diamond’s first ever #1 debut.   With 12 Songs and Home Before Dark, Diamond renewed himself artistically and earned yet another new generation of listeners to whom his timeless classics still speak as loudly as his newest creations.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly dedicated a Walk of Fame star today, July 26, 2012 for singer Pepe Aguilar. “Pepe Aguilar is one of the most popular Latin singing stars we have and it shows by the response fans have given us on a daily basis about the star ceremony. We also hear from his team that he is thrilled that his star is next to that of his father, the legendary Antonio Aguilar,” stated Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame Producer. Performing at the ceremony were Mariachi Zacatecano de Pepe Aguilar and Banda Sinaloense Viento de Oro. Along with family and friends. A sea of fans were on hand to see their favorite balladeer be honored with his star on the Walk of Fame.

Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, guest speaker Neil Portnow, President & CEO of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences® helped Pepe unveil the 2,474th in the category of Recording at 7060 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Live Nation Building.

Pepe Aguilar was born on August 7, during his father Antonio Aguilar’s tour, in San Antonio Texas and was raised in Zacatecas Mexico. At the age of three he made his debut at no less a venue than Madison Square Garden in New York; the beginning of a singing career which, in his own individual style and manner, would also see him attain legendary status. However, in spite of the importance of this protective, familial tutelage, he developed his talents himself, leading a movement that would mix the mariachi tradition with the energy of contemporary pop music.

With global sales of his recordings surpassing 12 million copies and hailed by critics in North America as a ‘Latin Music Superstar’, since the year 2000, among many recognitions, Pepe Aguilar has garnered four Grammys, and two Latin Grammys, thirteen Premios Lo Nuestro including his latest, ‘The Excellence Award’ last February and many Billboard Awards.

The level of success Pepe Aguilar has achieved is also shown in the 15 songs that have reached the top of the Radio charts, and being a solid tour act for over 15 years.

Apart from his exceptional voice (he is hailed as the “The Voice”, by many ), he is an accomplished producer/composer/musician. From "Miedo" and "El Autobus" to the most recent pieces "Ni Contigo ni sin Ti" and "Prometiste" who he co wrote and co produced.

As a producer, he has worked with many renowned figures in the music industry, his entire family to start with, and a huge variety of artists, from traditional Mexican folk and pop singers like Lupita D’Alessio, Edith Márquez and Guadalupe Pineda to Spanish-language rock stars such as Julieta Venegas or Tiziano Ferro. His special commissions include the writing and production of the theme for the Premios OYE in 2005, for which he wrote an electronic song without lyrics. In the same year, he produced the theme for Teletón Mexico, which he sung with Sin Bandera, Reyli, Kalimba y Natalia, and La Forquentina, among others.

His album credits include works with mariachi bands to symphony orchestras, “Mas De Un Camino” his latest work, was executive produced by him and complemented by the talented Fernando De Santiago, Homero Patrón y Manuel Cazares.

“Mas De Un Camino” (More Than One Way), is the continuation of an earlier work, "Negociaré con la Pena"  although more towards a traditional mariachi sound. This production,  number 23 in the singer's successful career is composed of seven brand new tracks, with the participation of composers like Fato, Reily, Marco Antonio Solis, Estefano and Leonel Garcia among others.

Earlier this year, his tribute/concept album "Bicentenario," won the Grammy, for “Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album.”  In addition, with this production he also won two Latin Grammy nominations for best album and best song with "Chaparrita," another one of his own compositions.

Much to the joy of his fans, Aguilar will be performing at the Gibson Amphitheatre August 4th and 5th.

Part of the criteria for being honored with a star is charitable involvement. Aguilar is proud to work with the Teleton Para Los Ninos and Padres Contra Cancer.
