The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Amy Poehler was honored today, December 3, 2015 with the 2,566th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame  at 12:30 p.m. PST. The star in the category of Television was dedicated at 6767 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Hollywood Wax Museum.

Helping Emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were speakers Rashida Jones and Mike Schur. “We are thrilled to add Amy Poehler to our Walk of Fame. She has kept us in stitches for so many years with her career as one of Hollywood’s top comedic actresses,” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Fans should be ready for a ceremony full of laughter!” she added.

Event was live-streamed exclusively on www.walkoffame.com.

Amy Poehler was born in Massachusetts. She began her meteoric rise when she joined the “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) cast from the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) a sketch/improv troupe that she co-founded. Poehler relocated to New York where UCB had a sketch show on Comedy Central for three seasons on which she was both a writer and performer. During the success of the TV show, UCB opened a training center in NYC and has since expanded with several locations in NYC and LA. The UCB theaters are regarded as the premiere sketch/improv comedy venues in the country, and the programs have helped catapult many star performers, writers and shows into the mainstream.

Poehler is one of Hollywood’s most versatile and sought after talents, with a number of high-profile projects in the works. Poehler will next star alongside Tina Fey in Universal Pictures’ “Sisters,” from director Jason Moore. The comedy will be released nationwide in theaters on December 18th.

She is also at work on two new film projects: “The House” opposite Will Ferrell, and “Balls,” a basketball comedy for Universal Pictures which she will star in and produce. Additionally, Poehler continues to serve as executive producer on both Comedy Central’s “Broad City” and Hulu’s “Difficult People”, both of which have been picked up for additional seasons.

Off-camera, Poehler produces and hosts Ask Amy on the award-winning online website Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls at the Party, which showcases real girls who are “changing the world by being themselves.” Her first book, “Yes Please,” was released in October 2014 and debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. The book went on to spend a total of 23 weeks on the list.

Poehler is perhaps best known for her starring role on the Primetime Emmy-nominated NBC comedy series “Parks and Recreation,” which completed its seventh and final season in February 2015. Her portrayal of Leslie Knope earned her a 2014 Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical, or Comedy, the award for Best Actress in a Television Comedy at the 2014 American Comedy Awards, and a 2013 Gracie Award. For her work on the show, Poehler also received six consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations, two additional Golden Globe nominations and two Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.

In January 2015, Poehler returned for a third and final time as co-host of the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, a role that was again met with much critical acclaim.

In the film world, Poehler most recently lent her voice as the character Joy in Disney Pixar’s box office smash hit “Inside Out”. Her other film credits include “They Came Together,” “A.C.O.D., “Free Birds,” “Are You Here,” “Baby Mama,” “Blades of Glory,” “Mean Girls” and “Wet Hot American Summer” the latter of which returned as a series on Netflix in the summer of 2015.

Poehler has a production deal with her company, Paper Kite Productions through NBC’s studio Universal Television. In addition to current projects “Broad City,” “Difficult People” and “Balls,” Poehler recently sold a film project called “Schooled” which she will produce. Paper Kite has had an extremely successful selling season with pilot commitments for projects such as “Aunt Jill,” “Dumb Prince” and “Pre-Madonna.”

After her much buzzed about portrayal of Senator Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Presidential Election, Poehler completed her eighth and final season of SNL (and her fifth as the co-anchor of “Weekend Update”). Poehler boasted an impressive arsenal of outrageous characters, from the hyperactive Caitlin and one-legged reality show contestant Amber to a manic host of Good Morning Meth. Poehler also contributed memorable impressions of Kelly Ripa, Avril Lavigne, Sharon Osbourne, Paula Abdul, Sharon Stone and Michael Jackson. In 2008, she received her first Primetime-Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on SNL. Due to a change in eligibility, this was an unprecedented nomination, making her the first performer in SNL history to land a spot in this category. She went on to receive a second nomination in this category for her work on her final season the following year.

Poehler supports several charitable organizations and serves as World Wide Orphans Foundation’s Ambassador of the Arts.

David Duchovny

David Duchovny Honored With
Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Watch the complete star ceremony below as David Duchovny unveils his star on Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored actor David Duchovny with the 2,572nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, January 25, 2016. The star in the category of Television was dedicated at 6508 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the FOX Theatre.

Helping Emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were “X-Files” creator/director/executive producer Chris Carter and comedian Garry Shandling. “Fans were thrilled that their favorite actor David Duchovny was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is beloved by audiences worldwide for his television and film work,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies.

Born and raised in New York City, Duchovny attended Princeton University where he played one season as shooting guard on the school’s basketball team. He received his Master’s Degree in English Literature from Yale and was on the road to earning his Ph.D. when he caught the acting bug.

Subsequently, Duchovny emerged to become one of the most highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood. The star of 20th Century Fox Television’s international monster hit  “The X-Files,” he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, he was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his highly acclaimed and some say risqué appearances on “The Larry Sanders Show.” In January 1997, he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. He has been nominated for a total of three Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild and a TV Critic’s Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The press and the public both agree that Duchovny brings a fierce intellect, a quiet intensity and an acerbic wit to his roles on both the small screen and the silver screen.

Fans will be happy to know that thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of “The X-Files” will be back with a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The two-Night Season Premiere airs Sunday, January 24, 10-11 PM ET/7-8 PM PT and Monday, January 25, 8-9 PM ET/PT on FOX. Beginning on Monday, January 25, the series will air in its Monday 8 PM timeslot.

Since “The X-Files” debuted, millions and millions of self-proclaimed “X-Philes” spent their Sunday nights wide-eyed in anticipation as their hero, the brilliant and sullen FBI agent Fox Mulder, explored cases deemed unbelievable or unsolvable by the Bureau. Duchovny’s remarkable performance on   “The X-Files” earned him the title of “Zeitgeist Icon” by Laura Jacobs in The New Republic, and “the first Internet sex symbol with hair” by Maureen Dowd in The New York Times.

Duchovny added the role of director to his already extensive list of accomplishments when he wrote, directed and starred in three critically acclaimed episodes of “The X-Files,” titled “The Unnatural,” which starred Jessie Martin; “Hollywood A.D.”, starring Garry Shandling and actress Tea Leoni, and “William”. Other directing credits include the Fox hit series “Bones,” as well as, six episodes of “Californication.”

Duchovny’s passion for renegade films has brought him critical acclaim for his performances in the feature films “Kalifornia,” in which he co-starred opposite Brad Pitt; “The Rapture,” the controversial film directed by Michael Tolkin in which Duchovny starred opposite Mimi Rogers; and “Julia Has Two Lovers,” in which he turned in a much heralded performance as a telephone hustler. Duchovny played Roland “Rollie” Totheroh, Charlie Chaplin’s longtime confidante and cameraman in the Sir Richard Attenborough directed “Chaplin,” which starred Robert Downey, Jr. in the title role; and starred in the smash hit “Beethoven,” opposite Charles Grodin and Bonnie Hunt. Feature credits include the Dreamworks action-comedy “Evolution,” opposite Julianne Moore and directed by Ivan Reitman, the MGM romantic-comedy “Return To Me,” opposite Minnie Driver, directed by Bonnie Hunt. “The X-Files” movie, and “Playing God,” with Timothy Hutton and Angelina Jolie. David went on to appear in a hilariously funny cameo in Ben Stiller’s film “Zoolander.”

David is still recognized for his role as Dennis/Denise Bryson, the transvestite detective in David Lynch’s breakthrough television series “Twin Peaks.”  Duchovny also spent four seasons as the impassioned narrator of Zalman King’s erotic anthology series Red Shoe Diaries,” which began as a feature length telefilm for Showtime.

In 2002, he starred in the Miramax ensemble comedy “Full Frontal,” for director Steven Soderbergh, co-starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney. David made brief returns to television, first appearing in good friend Bonnie Hunt’s show “Life With Bonnie,” in which he guest starred as over-the-top weatherman Johnny Volcano, for which he was nominated for an Emmy in 2003. Following that, he made a memorable appearance on “Sex And The City,” as an ex-flame of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw character.

He made his feature directorial debut in 2005 with “House Of D” which he also wrote and appeared in. The film, which starred Robin Williams and Anton Yelchin, vividly captured the spirit of youth in all its joy and heartbreak.

Other feature credits include “Trust The Man,” “The TV Set,” “Things We Lost In The Fire,” “The Secret,” “The X-Files: I Want To Believe,” and “The Joneses.”

Duchovny ventured onto the stage starring off Broadway in Neil LaBute’s play “The Break Of Noon” in which he reunited with his “X-Files: I Want To Believe” co-star Amanda Peet.

Next, he worked on the independent features “Goats” opposite Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell, Graham Phillips and Dakota Johnson; “Phantom” opposite Ed Harris and the independent feature “Louder Than Words” opposite Hope Davis and Timothy Hutton.

His other long-running series “Californication” ended its 7-year run in Summer of 2015 for Showtime. Hank Moody marked another seminal character portrayed by Duchovny that has made it’s its way into our pop culture lexicon, and for whose portrayal he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Comedy series.

Duchovny recently released his first studio album for ThinkSay Records which is being distributed by Caroline, and is available for download on iTunes.

His first novel Holy Cow was released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in February 2015 and hit The New York Times® Best Sellers list. Hisnext book called Bucky Fu##ing Dent will be published on April 5th.

Earlier this year he was seen in the Tomorrow Studios /NBC series “Aquarius,” which he executive produced and in which he stars. The complete series was released on premiere day on NBC.com, the NBC app and VOD.  He is currently shooting the 2nd Season of “Aquarius” for NBC.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Quentin Tarantino with the 2,569th star today, Monday, December 21, 2015. The star in the category of Motion Pictures was dedicated in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre at 6927 Hollywood Boulevard.

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were Samuel L. Jackson.

Quentin Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and began his film career as a video store clerk and eventually broke into the motion picture business when he sold the screenplays for “Natural Born Killers” and “True Romance”.

With his vibrant imagination and dedication to richly layered storytelling Quentin Tarantino (Writer/Director) has established himself as one of the most celebrated filmmakers of his generation.

The Weinstein Company will release Tarantino's “The Hateful Eight”, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Demian Bichir, and Bruce Dern in glorious 70mm on Christmas Day with a nationwide theatrical digital release on December 31, 2015. In “The Hateful Eight”, six or eight or ten years after the end of the Civil War, a band of strangers who seek refuge from a blizzard in a mountainside stopover and discover that hidden allegiances and dangerous motives threaten their survival.

Tarantino won his second Oscar® for Best Screenplay for “Django Unchained”, starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz (in his second Academy Award®-winning role), Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, and Walton Goggins.  Set in the Antebellum South, “Django Unchained” chronicles a freed slave’s search for his long-lost wife “Django Unchained” was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards (with wins for Waltz and Tarantino for Best Screenplay), five BAFTAS (again, with wins for Tarantino and Waltz and editor Fred Raskin), and five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture.  The film grossed over $425 million worldwide.

“Inglourious Basterds”, Tarantino’s World War II epic, assembled a renowned international cast, including Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Michael Fassbender, Melanie Laurent, Til Schweiger, Mike Myers, and Christoph Waltz, who won an Academy Award® for his portrayal of Colonel Hans Landa. First shown in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, “Inglourious Basterds” was a critical and box office sensation, garnering numerous awards, including six BAFTA nominations, four Golden Globe nominations and eight Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Achievement in Directing.

Prior to “Inglourious Basterds”, Tarantino thrilled audiences with “Death Proof”, starring Kurt Russell and Zoë Bell. Paired domestically with Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror” on a double bill called “Grindhouse”, “Death Proof” was shown in competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

In Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Vol. 1” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2”, Uma Thurman, as The Bride, enacted a “roaring rampage of revenge” on her former lover and boss, played by David Carradine. Shot in China, Japan, the United States, and Mexico, the film co-starred Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox and Michael Madsen as Carradine’s team of assassins. Tarantino wrote and directed “Jackie Brown”, a crime caper loosely based on Elmore Leonard’s novel Rum Punch, starring Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda and Michael Keaton. Grier garnered both Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for her performance in the title role. Forster was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actor, and Jackson won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival for his performance as Ordell Robbie.

Tarantino co-wrote, directed and starred in “Pulp Fiction”, which won numerous critics’ awards, a Golden Globe and Academy Award® for Best Screenplay, and the Palme D’Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. (Tarantino made a return visit to Cannes ten years later to take on the prestigious role of jury president.) The time-bending crime drama stars John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer and Christopher Walken.

Tarantino wrote, directed and starred in “Reservoir Dogs”, which made an auspicious debut at the Sundance Film Festival and marked the beginning of Tarantino’s career as a filmmaker. “Reservoir Dogs” co-stars Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi and Harvey Keitel.

Following the success of “Reservoir Dogs”, the screenplays that Tarantino wrote during his tenure as a video store clerk became hot properties: Tony Scott directed Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette in “True Romance”, and Robert Rodriguez directed George Clooney and Salma Hayek in “From Dusk Till Dawn”. In addition to their collaborations “From Dusk Till Dawn” and “Grindhouse”, Tarantino also joined Rodriguez as a special guest director on his hit Sin City.

Tarantino joined Rodriguez, Allison Anders and Alexandre Rockwell by directing, writing and executive producing a segment of the omnibus feature “Four Rooms”. For television, Tarantino directed the season five finale of “CSI.”  The episode, titled “Grave Danger” garnered Tarantino an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Tarantino made his television directorial debut in 1995 with an episode of the long-running drama “ER.”

Tarantino’s commitment to film preservation is best exemplified by this purchase and refurbishment of the New Beverly Cinema located in Los Angeles. Regarded as an institution among cinephiles the New Beverly showcases 35mm prints of classic films on nightly double features curated by Tarantino. He is also an ardent supporter of The Sundance Institute, most recently serving as a creative advisor for the 2014 January Screenwriters Lab and recently began working with The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Bob Kane

Batman Creator Bob Kane Honored Posthumously with Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Batman Film Franchise Received Guinness World Records™ Title for Most Film Adaptations Of A Comic Book Character

Watch the Walk of Fame star ceremony below.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored the late Bob Kane posthumously with the 2,562nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015. The star in the category of Motion Pictures was dedicated at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Guinness World Records Museum. “Kane’s creation of American cultural icon Batman is every child’s dream Super Hero. We are excited to honor the man who gave life to this great character,” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez. “Fans from all over the world have been waiting for this monumental day and we hope Kane’s shiny star forever inspires generations of creative minds.”

Helping emcee and Hollywood Chamber President/CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star were filmmaker Zack Snyder and DC Entertainment Co-publisher and acclaimed artist Jim Lee. Snyder is at the helm of the upcoming action adventure Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice due in theaters March 25, 2016, and will next direct the long-awaited Justice League feature film. Lee, who had the pleasure of meeting Bob Kane, will speak to the character’s enduring appeal and how Batman has captured the imagination of the entire world.

In 1939 in a New York art studio, Bob Kane created one of the most popular characters of the twentieth century – The Batman. Kane’s creation has become the star of comic books, Saturday afternoon movie serials, newspaper comic strips, a live-action TV series, several animated TV series, and several of the largest-grossing feature films of all time.

“I suppose I must have had printer’s ink in my blood,” Kane said of his childhood, “for as far back as I can recall, I’ve had a pencil in my hand. When I was ten, my dad was a printer for the New York Daily News. He’d bring home all the paper’s comics, and I copied them constantly. It got so eventually I could do them as well as the cartoonists themselves.” This informal training led the young Kane to create his own comics. By 1938, he was selling humorous stories to DC Comics, including the features “Professor Doolittle” and “Ginger Snapp.”

In 1939, one year after Superman’s debut, DC Comics editor Vincent Sullivan decided that he wanted another costumed hero. He asked 22-year-old Bob Kane for his ideas. “I went home that weekend,” Kane recalled, “traced some sketches of Superman, and started penciling different costume ideas. It was then that I got my first brainstorm: I remembered one of Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches – a drawing of a flying machine with bat wings. That’s what germinated the idea for Batman. The second influence on me was the hero with the dual identity in The Mark Of Zorro. And then I thought about ‘The Bat Whispers,’ a mystery movie written by Mary Roberts Rinehart.

“I realized I was getting closer. I drew a character with bird wings and called him Bird Man, but that wasn’t quite right. So I changed the wings, made them bat-like, and called him Batman. Almost every famous character ever created had a kind of simplistic, definitive design that was easily recognizable, and that’s what I was striving for with Batman.”

The first published appearance of The Bat-Man, as he was then known, was in the May 1939 issue of Detective Comics #27. Batman’s first adventure was called “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate,” and was written by Kane’s frequent collaborator, Bill Finger, who over the years would make many significant contributions to the Batman universe. The character was so successful that one year later the first comic book devoted exclusively to the popular caped crusader’s adventures, BATMAN #1, hit the newsstands. In that issue, Batman battled The Joker and Catwoman for the first time.

Bob Kane continued to illustrate Batman’s comic book adventures until his retirement in 1968. His work covered not only countless comic book adventures, but also three years of the “Batman and Robin” newspaper comic strip, which ran from 1943 to 1946.

The success of the Batman television show in 1966 brought Kane and his art back into the public eye. Kane was subsequently featured in various one-man art shows at galleries and museums nationwide. He served as a consultant on the 1989 Batman feature film and its three sequels. Kane’s autobiography, Batman And Me, was published in 1989. Seven years later, Kane was inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 1996. Bob Kane, the American cartoonist, died on November 3, 1998.

Bob Kane was generous with his time and resources. He often visited children’s hospitals and donated funds to such organizations as Feed the Children, Make a Wish Foundation, the Westside Children’s Center, the Bay Area Youth Center and many other agencies providing services to the hungry, homeless, abused or abandoned children. The creative philanthropist donated a portion of proceeds from his one-man exhibit of original Batman oil paintings at the Carlton House’s Paul Stooshnoff Gallery to the American Cancer Fund. He also wrote and illustrated numerous comic strips, cartoons and comic books in tribute to Batman with all proceeds to benefit the Child Welfare League of America.
