Adam West

KAPOW!
Adam West Celebrates 50 Years In The Biz with Star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Adam West with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. “We are thrilled to honor Adam with this prestigious award. Fans have been waiting for this special day for many years.  Adam West fired up the billion dollar Batman franchise: the golden years and the classic Batman, the Bright Knight. He deserves his place of honor on our famed Walk of Fame,” said Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO.

During the span of a 50-year career, from Batman to the voice of Quahog’s Mayor on Family Guy, Adam West has become a television icon.

Born in Walla Walla, Washington as William West Anderson , Adam began his career as a radio DJ and TV show host.  He arrived in Hollywood in 1959, after landing a contract with Warner Brothers studios.  That same year, he made his feature film debut opposite Paul Newman in The Young Philadelphians.

A long line of TV roles followed on shows like Maverick, Bonanza and The Outer Limits,  as well as a co-starring role for a season on The Detectives.

But, in 1965, his life would change forever when producer William Dozier, impressed by Adam’s talent, looks and humor, handpicked him to take on the title role of ABC’s new TV series, BATMAN.

It’s been said the biggest pop-culture phenomena of the 1960’s can be boiled down to the “Three B’s”: Beatles, Bond, and BATMAN.  In the early 1960’s, Batman was simply a cartoon character in a comic book that was close to cancellation, but Adam West’s performance in the ground-breaking TV adaptation propelled Batman into becoming one of the most-famous characters in modern fiction.  West’s turn as the “classic” Batman has laid the foundation for the success of all the incarnations of the “Caped Crusader” that have followed after him.  The smash success of the TV series, and the feature film that followed shortly thereafter, launched Adam West into international superstardom in 1966.

After its original run, BATMAN entered into non-stop syndication and Adam West has continued to garner new generations of fans all over the world for the past 40 years.  All the while, he’s continued to work on stage, in movies and TV, and as a much sought-after voice actor.

It’s his wildly successful career as a voice actor that has brought him his most recent triumph as “Mayor Adam West” on the hugely popular, and critically-acclaimed, TV series Family Guy on the Fox network. Family Guy airs on Sunday evenings on FOX and fans can enjoy more from Family Guy with never-before-seen footage and extras when Volume 10 releases on DVD this Fall. Also this spring, fans can interact with Mr. West as he reprises his role as Family Guy’s Mayor Adam West, but this time in a virtual format in Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming Family Guy Online game (http://www.familyguyonline.com).

For the past 50 years, Adam West has not only been an international television star, but also a devoted father and husband, philanthropist, and dedicated ambassador of goodwill for the entertainment industry as he greets hundreds of thousands of his fans during personal appearances all over the globe.

*Special Note: Adam West has a Guinness World Record!

MOST APPEARANCES AS BATMAN:

“Adam West has made 156 individual screen appearances as Batman, including 120 episodes of the 1966-68 Batman TV series and its accompanying feature film, numerous voiceover performances for animated series and TV movies, and the computer generated video short Batman: New Times’ in 2005.

Kevin Conroy, who has voiced the character in animated series and films since 1993, has notched up 118 appearances, putting him in 2nd place, and Olan Soule, who provided Batman’s voice during the 70s and 80s, comes in at 3rd place with 68 separate appearances.”

MORE ABOUT MALCOLM McDOWELL

Malcolm McDowell is arguably among the most dynamic and inventive of world-class actors, yet also capable of immense charm, humor and poignancy. McDowell has created a gallery of iconic characters since catapulting to the screen as Mick Travis, the rebellious upperclassman in Lindsay Anderson’s prize-winning sensation, If

His place in movie history was subsequently secured when Stanley Kubrick cast the actor to play the gleefully amoral Alex in A Clockwork Orange; when McDowell himself conceived the idea for Mick Travis’ further adventures in Anderson’s Candide-like masterpiece, O Lucky Man!; and when he wooed Mary Steenburgen and defeated Jack the Ripper as the romantically-inquisitive H.G. Wells in Time After Time.

Those legendary roles have endured with legions of filmgoers while new fans have been won over by his tyrannical Soran (the destroyer of Capt. Kirk) in Star Trek: Generations; his Machiavellian Mr. Roarke in “Fantasy Island” and his comically-pompous professor Steve Pynchon in the critically-hailed CBS television series, “Pearl,” starring opposite Rhea Perlman.

Other of McDowell’s distinctive motion picture characterizations include Richard Lester’s Royal Flash, Paul Schrader’s Cat People, Rachel Talalay’s Tank Girl, Joseph Losey’s Figures in a Landscape, Bryan Forbes’ The Raging Moon and the Chaplinesque studio boss in Blake Edwards’ Sunset.

On television, McDowell had recurring appearances as Terence on the HBO hit series, “Entourage,” as Linderman on NBC’s “Heroes,” Darren Vogel on “CSI: Miami,” and Bret Stiles on the hit show, “The Mentalist.” Malcolm currently stars in TNT’s newest series, “Franklin & Bash,” as Stanton Infeld. “Franklin & Bash’s” debut success and high ratings resulted in a second season pick-up. That second season is scheduled to premiere in June of 2012.

In late 2011, Malcolm was seen in the year’s Oscar-winning silent film sensation, The Artist. This year, Amy Heckerling’s Vamps with Sigourney Weaver and Alicia Silverstone will follow, as will Silent Hill Revelation: 3D.

On the charity front, Malcolm is the Honorary Chair of the Ojai Film Festival Celebrity Golf Classic, raising money to support the Ojai Film Festival. He also supports Oak Grove School, and Wild Horses in Need, as well as being a contributor to several other private charities.

With the success of “The Muppet Show,” the Muppets branched out to the big screen, releasing their first feature film, “The Muppet Movie,” in 1979. The film starred a myriad of actors, including Bob Hope, Cloris Leachman, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor and Paul Williams. This impressive list of celebrity cast and cameos became the hallmark of all Muppet films, six of which followed, including “The Great Muppet Caper” (1981), “The Muppets Take Manhattan” (1984), “The Muppet Christmas Carol” (1992), “Muppet Treasure Island” (1996) and “Muppets from Space” (1999).

The latest film, “The Muppets” (2011) follows Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend, Mary (Amy Adams), from Smalltown, USA, as they head to Los Angeles for vacation and discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze Muppet Studios and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds.

All seven films have signature soundtracks that received countless awards, including an Academy Award®nomination for Best Song for “Rainbow Connection,” Best Original Score for “The Muppet Movie” and the 2012 “Best Original Song” Academy Award® for “Man or Muppet,” from the “The Muppets” (2011).

In addition to feature films, Muppet mania continued long after “The Muppet Show” ended its run.  Many television specials and documentaries featuring the classic Muppet characters have been produced. Muppet Magazine was published from 1983-1988 and “The Muppets” comic strip was syndicated in U.S. newspapers from the early to mid 1980s. Museum exhibits (“The Art of The Muppets,” “The World of Jim Henson: Muppets, Monsters & Magic,” “The Vision of Jim Henson” and others) featuring Muppet characters toured domestically and internationally from 1980-2001.

Multiple record albums for “The Muppet Show,” “Muppet Babies” and all of the Muppet movies have been released worldwide. Hundreds of Muppet books have also been published around the world since 1976.

Throughout the years the Muppets have also produced numerous public service announcements and have acted as spokespeople for many causes both domestically and internationally, ranging from The National Wildlife Federation, UNICEF and the American Film Institute, to the University of Maryland, the American Library Association and the Better World Society. Kermit regularly appears as a giant balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.

The in-home release of the year’s best-loved and critically acclaimed family comedy “The Muppets” includes the ultimate three-disc value pack which contains the movie on Blu-ray high definition, DVD and Digital Copy, plus a download card which enables fans to have all the songs from the film’s bestselling soundtrack from Walt Disney Records.

Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce along with guest speakers Adam Sandler, Malin Ackerman and Kathryn Hahn helped Aniston unveil the 2,462nd star in the category of Motion Pictures.

Jennifer Anistonwas born in Sherman Oaks, California. Her family moved to New York City when her father was cast in a role on the daytime drama “Love ofLife.” As an eleven-year-old student at the Rudolf Steiner School in New York City, shejoined the drama club and her experience there encouraged her to pursue acting as acareer. She then studied further at New York’s High School of the Performing Arts.  After she graduated in 1987, she landed roles in the off-Broadway production For Dear Life, at New York’s Public Theater, and Dancing on Checker’s Grave.

Aniston’s television career then started after being cast as a series regular on “Molloy” and “The Edge.” She had guest-starring roles on “Quantum Leap” and “Burke’s Law” and a starring role in “Ferris Bueller.” She was then cast in perhaps her most well-known role as Rachel Green in the classic television comedy “Friends.” For her role as Rachel, she received five Emmy nominations, two SAG Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations. She won an Emmy (2002) and a Golden Globe (2003) for Lead Actress in a Comedy. The generosity of her fans led to her winning five People’s Choice Awards.

During hiatus from “Friends,” Aniston pursued a budding film career. She had roles in THEN THERE WAS YOU, PICTURE PERFECT, DREAMS FOR AN INSOMNIAC, SHE’S THE ONE, ROCK STAR and THE OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION — the first of her roles with Paul Rudd — and BRUCE ALMIGHTY with Jim Carrey. One of her most critically-acclaimed roles was 2002’s THE GOOD GIRL with Jake Gyllenhaal, for which Aniston received an Independent Spirit Award nomination.

With the emotional end of “Friends” and her time as Rachel Green, Aniston devoted herself full-time to her movie career. She had starring roles in RUMOR HAS IT with Kevin Costner and Shirley Maclaine, DERAILED with Clive Owen and the box-office hit THE BREAK-UP with Vince Vaughn. For her role as a depressed housekeeper in director Nicole Holofcener’s FRIENDS WITH MONEY, the independent film which also starred Frances McDormand and Catherine Keener, Aniston received some of the best reviews of her career.

Proving her ability to navigate the world of both independent and studio-financed films, Aniston also co-starred in the box-office hits in the emotionally-moving MARLEY & ME with Owen Wilson and HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU.  She also starred alongside leading men Gerard Butler in THE BOUNTY HUNTER and Aaron Eckhart in LOVE HAPPENS.  Adam Sandler played her leading man in the comedy hit JUST GO WITH IT.  After co-starring in THE SWITCH, her first film with Jason Bateman, Aniston and Bateman costarred in the box-office hit HORRIBLE BOSSES, which also starred Jason Sudeikis and Colin Farrell, and in which Aniston played a sexually insatiable dentist. On February 24, she will be seen opposite Paul Rudd in WANDERLUST, the new comedy from director David Wain and producer Judd Apatow, which will be released nationwide by Universal Pictures.

Aniston has also pursued her interest in directing. Her first film was the short “Room 10,” which was part of an award-winning short film series. She most recently directed one of an anthology of five short films, “Five,” which explores the impact of breast cancer on people’s lives and for which she received a DGA Award nomination.

Over the years, Aniston has been involved with numerous charitable organizations, including: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the Lili Claire Foundation, AmeriCares, GLAAD, Project A.L.S., the U.S. Campaign for Burma, Stand Up To Cancer and many others.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll

Our Lips Don’t Lie!
SHAKIRA HONORED WITH
STAR ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Shakira with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the W Hollywood Hotel on the world famous corner of Hollywood and Vine.

Leron Gubler, President/CEO of Hollywood Chamber and Los Angeles Council President Eric Garcetti and Shakira’s family helped her unveil  the 2,454th star in the Category of Recording.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (born February 2,), known professionally as Shakira is a Colombian singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer and philanthropist who emerged in the music scenes of Colombia and Latin America in the early 1990s. Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira revealed many of her talents in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability with rock and roll, and Latin and Arabic influences with her own original twist on belly dancing.

Shakira’s debut album, “Magia,” was released in June 1991, when she was 13 years old.  In 1995 she released “Pies Descalzos.” which brought her great fame in Latin America and Spain, and her 1998 album “¿Dónde Están los Ladrones?” was a critical success selling more than 7 million copies worldwide. In 2001, aided by the worldwide success of her first English single “Whenever, Wherever” that became the best selling single of 2002, she broke into the English-speaking world with the release of “Laundry Service,” selling more than 13 million copies worldwide. Four years later, Shakira released two albums called “Fijación Oral Vol. 1” and “Oral Fixation Vol. 2.” Both reinforced her success, and the best-selling song of the 2000s, “Hips Don’t Lie” won her a Grammy.

She has won two Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She is also the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time.

Shakira’s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, was chosen as the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The song has received positive critical reception and has become a worldwide smash hit and the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time. On YouTube, the English version of the music video is the 3rd most watched video of all time.

The lead single from the album “La Tortura” spent a record of twenty-five weeks at number one on the U.S. Latin chart. Shakira became the first artist to perform a Spanish-language song at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2005. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 157,000 copies in its first week. It has since sold more than two million copies in the U.S., earning a 2x Platinum certification from the RIAA, and the album became the highest debut ever for a Spanish-language album.

The compassionate side of Shakira is most obvious in the remarkable work of her “Pies Descalzos” (Barefoot) Foundation, which she started at the age of 18 and has recently, opened its sixth school. The foundation provides education and nutrition to more than six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly-launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.

Shakira has also become a leading advocate for universal education, speaking to world leaders on the topic and advocating policy change to governments around the world. (The remarkable position she has reached was evident during a recent trip to New York, when she addressed President Bill Clinton’s Global Initiative summit one day, then headlined a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden the next.)

In October 2011, Shakira was named to the White House Education commission. This appointment confirms Shakira’s status as an important international philanthropist and advocate for social causes.
