“Ice-T is a cultural icon and a success both in the music and television industries. His fans will be very excited to see their favorite performer placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ice’s star will be situated near the stars of music greats such as Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Luciano Pavarotti, Mama Cass Elliott, John Denver, Herbie Hancock to name a few,” added Martinez.

Joining emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo for the star unveiling were legendary rapper Chuck D and Walk of Famers, Mariska Hargitay and Dick Wolf.

Ice-T stars as Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola in NBC’s “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” from Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment, now in its 24th season and the longest-running primetime drama series of all time.

No other actor has shared a longer or stronger working relationship with powerhouse producer Dick Wolf, who has collaborated with Ice-T on seven different projects.

Ice-T also starred in Wolf’s telefilm “Exiled: A Law & Order Movie” and guest starred as Fin in “Law & Order,” “Chicago P.D.” and “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” In 2002, he won the NAACP Image Award for his role as “SVU’s” Detective Tutuola.

His first on-screen break came when the producers of the film “Breakin'” asked him to rap in the movie. Additional film and television credits include “New Jack City,” “Ricochet,” “Trespass,” “Johnny Mnemonic,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and “Saturday Night Live.” He has numerous independent and documentary film roles to his credit as well, including his 2012 directorial debut “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap,” and “Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp,” which he produced in 2012.

Ice-T and his wife, Coco, starred in the E! reality series “Ice Loves Coco” for 4 seasons and Ice also hosted and produced four seasons of the Oxygen unscripted series “In Ice Cold Blood”.

Born in New Jersey, Ice-T quickly learned the art of survival. An only child whose parents died when he was very young, Ice-T became involved in Los Angeles gangs before spending four years in the Army. He went on to become rap’s original gangster, writing songs such as “6 ‘N the Mornin’” and the Grammy nominated “New Jack Hustler.”

Ice-T not only invented gangster rap, he has lived it. He is the original embodiment of L.A. hip-hop and a cultural icon. Through his music, books and lecture tours of America’s prisons, high schools, libraries and colleges (including Harvard, Princeton and Stanford), Ice-T has become an influential spokesman for America’s youth, regardless of color.

The Grammy Award-winning artist formed Rhyme Syndicate Records in 1989 and released a string of groundbreaking West Coast rap records. He subsequently formed the thrash metal band Body Count with close high school friend and guitarist Ernie C. Body Count’s 1992 self-titled debut contained the controversial single “Cop Killer,” and the band became the most critically acclaimed act on the highly successful inaugural Lollapalooza Tour.

In 2018, Body Count received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for their single “Black Hoodie,” off their sixth studio album, “Bloodlust” and in 2021 won a Grammy for their song “Bum Rush.”  Ice and the band are currently in the recording studio working on their eighth album entitled “Merciless”.

Ice-T’s talent as an artist has spanned many disciplines. As an author, he’s written five books: “The Ice Opinion” (1994), “Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption – from South Central to Hollywood” (2011), the fictional novels “Kings of Vice” (2011) and “Mirror Image” (2014), and, most recently, “Split Decision” (2022), a compelling memoir of his early life and shared past with former crime partner Spike, written in collaboration with New York Times bestselling author Douglas Century.

As an avid gamer, he has lent his voice to over 20 video games, including the “Grand Theft Auto” series, “Gears of War 3,” “Scarface: The World Is Yours” and “Borderlands 3.” His recent strategic partnerships with celebrated brands Tide and Cheerios went viral in campaigns to promote energy conservation and heart health.

ABOUT OUR HONOREE

“We’re so honored to be able to welcome the Jonas Brothers to the Hollywood Walk of Fame” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “The fans will be thrilled when they find out that their favorite group will be having their star placed on the Walk of Fame where they can actually touch the star and pose with it. The group has been gracing us with music for more than fifteen years, and have made waves as musicians, actors and overall entertainers.” added Martinez.

Joining emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo were Monte and Avery Lippman, Jon Bellion and Ryan Tedder.

Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas first rose to prominence in the early aughts as the Jonas Brothers and have gone on to be globally recognized as multi-platinum pop stars as both a unit and as individuals. Formed in 2005, the band of brothers soundtracked the mid-late 2000s and became celebrated household names with albums It’s About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), A Little Bit Longer (2008) and Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009). Denizens of the stage at an early age, the New Jersey natives experienced an explosive rise to fame in their formative years as some of Disney Channel’s most prominent stars – with lead roles appearing in “Camp Rock” (2007), “Camp Rock 2” (2010) and their own series “Jonas” (2009).

While the brothers continued on to experience meteoric success as a group, their forays into individual music projects gained them further critical acclaim. Nick Jonas’s 2014’s self-titled album Nick Jonas yielded the triple-platinum “Jealous,” double-platinum “Chains,” and gold-certified “Levels.” Its 2016 follow-up, Last Year Was Complicated, spawned the anthem “Close (feat. Tove Lo)” and propelled his streams into the billions. Joe Jonas continues to front the multi-platinum group DNCE, who debuted with smash hit “Cake By the Ocean” in 2016.

As a group, the Jonas Brothers took the world by storm in 2019 with the surprise release of their critically acclaimed and widely successful single “Sucker” following a six-year hiatus. The triple-platinum single debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, becoming the first #1 for the band and the first #1 debut from a group this century. The band went on to release Chasing Happiness, an Amazon Original film documenting the brothers’ rise and return to music, before going on to deliver their third #1 album with the arrival of their platinum-selling Happiness Begins (Republic Records). The trio continued to soar with their sold-out Happiness Begins Tour, selling over 1.2 million tickets.

In the wake of Happiness Begins, the band garnered a bevy of awards, including three trophies in the categories of “Top Duo/Group,” “Top Radio Songs Artist,” and “Top Radio Song” for “Sucker” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, a 2019 MTV VMA for “Best Pop Video,” “Best Duo/Group” at the 2020 iHeart Music Awards, and two Teen Choice Awards, including the prestigious “Decade Award.” They also picked up American Music Awards nominations, a coveted Grammy nomination and more.

Jonas Brothers only accelerated this momentum in 2021. They teamed up with Marshmello for “Leave Before You Love Me,” claiming a Top 10 spot at Top 40 radio for six weeks and tallying millions of streams and views. On its heels, they presented “Remember This” in partnership with NBCUniversal for the Tokyo Olympics. The song notably paved the way for the 44-date REMEMBER THIS Tour with support from Kelsea Ballerini. In between sold-out shows, they released their new single, “Who’s In Your Head” which skyrocketed up radio charts and further amplified excitement for more new music to come.

Over the years, the Jonas Brothers have dedicated themselves to numerous philanthropic projects/efforts/ventures. Most recently, the group headlined this summer’s Global Citizen festival, an annual music event supporting efforts to end extreme poverty. Earlier on in their career as a band, the Jonas Brothers established the Change for Children foundation to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and a will to succeed. To date, they have donated over $1 million dollars to the organization. Additionally, Nick, a longtime advocate for Diabetes and a Type 1 diabetic himself, launched Beyond Type 1, a non-profit organization focused on raising awareness, advocacy, education and the pathway to cures for Type 1 Diabetes.

Each of the brothers continue to blaze a trail of success with a myriad of individual projects – while still forging ahead together as the Jonas Brothers. Most recently, Joe Jonas celebrated his first major role on the silver screen with the release of Sony’s major motion picture “Devotion,” as well as penned the original track “Not Alone,” for the film’s soundtrack. Kevin Jonas expanded his influence as both a host and author, becoming the face (alongside sibling Frankie Jonas) of ABC’s his series “Claim to Fame,” which is returning for a second season, as well as releasing his first children’s book with his wife Danielle. Nick Jonas is continuing to exercise his skills as an actor and is set to produce and star in Amazon Studios’ upcoming film “Foreign Relations” opposite Glen Powell.

The Jonas Brothers look forward to releasing new music in 2023, as well as taking their yet-to-be announced new album on the road.

Billy Idol was an early architect of the sound, style, and fury of punk rock. His lip- curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognizable faces in pop music, He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the U.S. and 10 in the U.K. including “Dancing With Myself, “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” “Mony Mony,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” and “Cradle Of Love.” Billy was responsible for some of punk rock’s most memorable, literate, and evocative moments and created a pioneering new sound by bringing the spirit of ’77 to the dance floor, going on to fashion an immediately identifiable musical blueprint that integrates club-land throb, rockabilly desperation, and rock’n’roll decadence.

Forty-five years after releasing his first 45, Billy Idol still makes gliding, thumping, cinematic songs about sin, redemption and the love of rock’n’roll…and that’s what you will find on The Roadside and The Cage, Billy Idol’s latest two four-song EPs released in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

For 41 years – 41 years! ¬– Steve has been Billy Idol’s sonic assassin and master blender of tones and textures, the thinking man’s shredder and the shredding man’s Picasso.

Billy Idol, together with his band featuring Steve Stevens, have consistently toured the World for the past two decades, headlining theatres and arenas and performing at major festivals all over the world.

On Friday, November 4, 2023. Salt-N-Pepa were honored with the 2,738th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Recording. The star is located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard adjacent to Amoeba Music.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has proudly hosted the globally iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame since 1960. The Chamber exists to transform business and improve lives. Through the Walk of Fame, the Chamber celebrates the business that transforms us all – the business of entertainment. Entertainment is a unique blend of art and enterprise; elevating and inspiring us all.

ABOUT OUR HONOREES
“This upcoming star ceremony honoring Hip-Hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will honor the amazing 80s music we all love and so many grew up with!” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez. “We’re placing these ladies of Hip Hop royalty adjacent to Amoeba Music and right next to the Walk of Fame star of another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott!” she added.

Joining emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo for the star unveiling were MC Lyte and Roxanne Shante. A special guest appearance was made by DJ Spinderella who also posed for photos with Salt-N-Pepa. Spin also received a replica plaque for her work in the group when it was first founded.

The duo of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton have pushed it real good as a trailblazing duo that changed the face of music for women in hip-hop. Known as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop, Salt-n-Pepa were credited for bringing fun, fashion, and femininity to hip hop; their unique and authentic style made them relatable. Salt-n-Pepa grew up in different boroughs in New York City. Pepa, who was born in Jamaica, lived in St. Alban, Queens, while Salt resided in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Their musical bond began to take shape when they met as students at Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens, where they created a diss track that became a local hit. Soon after Deidra “Spinderella” Roper joined the duo as their official DJ. Raised in Brooklyn, NY and only 16 at the time. Spinderella is considered the most celebrated and iconic female DJ in Hip-Hop.

With a new name and new buzz, Salt-N-Pepa landed a deal to make 1986’s Hot, Cool & Vicious, their debut LP that more than lived up to that spicy title. Propelled by “Push It,” their breakout hit on the pop charts, the album went platinum. Salt-N-Pepa proved that they were more than just the flavor of the moment with 1988’s A Salt with a Deadly Pepa, which is certified platinum.

The ladies really began to shake things up lyrically on their third album, 1990’s Blacks’ Magic. Their music had a message, with empowering anthems like “Expression,” “Independent” and “Let’s Talk About Sex.” Now they were speaking for—and to—women in a way that was bigger than a dope beat and a fly flow. Salt-N-Pepa only got bigger with 1993’s Very Necessary, which true to its title, proved to be an essential album. Boasting two Top 5 hits— “Shoop” and “Whatta Man”, a killer collaboration with En Vogue — the LP went platinum five times over. But it was “None of Your Business” that won them Grammy gold, for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, in 1995.

Now the pioneering ladies are living legends who get to see their legacy playing out while they’re very much still making moves. And what a lofty list of accomplishments Salt-N-Pepa has had. They became the first female rap act to have an album go gold and then platinum. They became, along with Queen Latifah, the first female MCs to win a Grammy. They have become international superstars, taking hip-hop from Russia to Australia. And they still have the best-selling album of all time by any female rap artists: their 1993 blockbuster Very Necessary.

For philanthropy, Salt supports Rock The Bells and Pep supports St. Jude.

ABOUT OUR HONOREES

“This ceremony will bring many great memories to those with a love for music of the 60s and 70s,” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez.  “We are proud to add this iconic psychedelic rock band to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and to place their star in front of Musician’s Institute makes for a special added touch,” she added.

Joining emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo for the star unveiling was John Densmore of The Doors.

Jefferson Airplane rose to fame in the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene, where they pioneered the music which defined the 1960s and embodied the spirit of the counterculture movement. With their seven studio albums, five of which went gold, two live LPs and two top 10 singles, “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love,” Jefferson Airplane solidified their legacy as one of the most prolific and vital groups from the era.

From October 1966 to February 1970, the classic Airplane lineup consisted of Marty Balin (vocals), Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals), Grace Slick (vocals), Jorma Kaukonen (lead guitar, vocals), Jack Casady (bass) and Spencer Dryden (drums).

The band started out playing in San Francisco, highlighted by their breakout at Bill Graham’s first legendary show at the Fillmore Auditorium. Graham would later become the group’s manager for a period and take them touring across the country.

The group’s debut LP, entitled Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, was released in August of 1966 and featured Signe Toly Anderson on lead vocals. Their second LP, entitled Surrealistic Pillow, with Slick on lead vocals was released in February of 1967. This LP assisted in launching the group to international fame with hit singles such as “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love” both hitting Top 10 on the Billboard chart.

In the following years the band released their third and fourth albums, After Bathing at Baxter’s and Crown of Creation, demonstrating a shift in their musical approach towards an emphasis on experimentation and a heavier sound. During this time they co-headlined a tour with The Doors in Europe in the summer of 1968 and were photographed for the cover of Life Magazine.

In August of 1969 at 7:00 am on a Sunday morning, Jefferson Airplane delivered an electric performance at Woodstock after waiting 17 hours to play. When they finally got onstage, Slick introduced the band’s performance as “morning maniac music”. This performance was one of many Jefferson Airplane festival appearances over the years. The group also performed at the Berkeley Folk Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey International Pop Festival, and Altamont over the span of their time together.

Jefferson Airplane went on to release many more successful albums, compilations, and live albums over the years. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and was presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.
