Bradley Whitford was honored with the 2,858th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 30th at 11:30 am PT at 6104 Hollywood Boulevard. Whitford received his star in the category of Television. Joining emcee Dayna Devon were Walk of Famer Martin Sheen and Dule Hill.

 

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce administers the legendary Walk of Fame for the City of Los Angeles and has proudly hosted the globally iconic star ceremonies for decades. Millions of people from here and around the world have visited this cultural landmark since 1960.

Whitford is best known for his iconic role as Josh Lyman on NBC’s The West Wing, which earned him his first Primetime Emmy Award. He later won Emmys for his performances in Transparent and The Handmaid’s Tale, where his portrayal of Commander Joseph Lawrence earned him widespread acclaim and two additional Emmy nominations.

Most recently, Whitford joined Netflix’s The Diplomat as Todd Penn, husband to President Grace Penn, played by his former West Wing co-star Allison Janney. His performance earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, and he will return as a series regular for the show’s fourth season in October. His recent projects also include Netflix’s limited series Death by Lightning, the independent film For Worse, directed by his wife Amy Landecker for which he also serves as an EP, and Universal Pictures’ Reminders of Him.

Whitford’s extensive television credits also include AMC’s Parish, Apple TV+’s Echo 3, NBC’s Perfect Harmony which he both starred in and executive produced, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Happyish, Trophy Wife, The Mentalist, The Good Guys, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, among many others.

On film, Whitford has appeared in acclaimed and Oscar-nominated projects including Get Out, The Post, Scent of a Woman, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tick, tick… BOOM!, as well as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Saving Mr. Banks, and HBO’s All the Way. He also produced the documentary Not Going Quietly, chronicling the life and activism of Ady Barkan.

A classically trained stage actor, Whitford studied theater and English literature at Wesleyan University before attending the Juilliard Theater Center. He made his Broadway debut in Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men and later appeared opposite Mark Rylance in Boeing, Boeing. His extensive stage work also includes Curse of the Starving Class, Measure for Measure, Three Days of Rain, Coriolanus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Christmas Carol, and Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

 

This fall, Whitford will return to Broadway in Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of A Few Good Men, taking on the role of Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep. The production marks the first Broadway revival of Aaron Sorkin’s landmark courtroom drama and sees Bradley taking on one of the most iconic roles in contemporary theater and film.

 

Whitford has worked with a variety of organizations over the years including Cure Autism Now, Autism Speaks, Be A Hero, and now The Patient’s Union in the fight to expand access to healthcare in this country, and is a longtime advocate for Planned Parenthood and other organizations fighting specifically for women’s access to healthcare. He received the Brady Action Award from the Brady Campaign for his advocacy on behalf of common-sense gun safety, and has been named a Champion of Justice for his work with the Alliance for Justice. He is a longtime supporter of Stacey Abram’s Fair Fight Action and the Fair Elections Center to ensure that we have free and fair elections for generations to come. Whitford also received the Ally for Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign and is an active advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation.
