Renán Almendárez Coello Known as El Cucuy De La Mañana Honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce today honored radio personality Renán Almendárez Coello, the famous El Cucuy de la Mañana, with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. PST. The star in the category of Radio was unveiled at 6141 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the newly developed Eastown. “The veteran Renán Almendárez Coello has kept us tuned to the radio for his laughs, jokes and comforting words that bridged effortlessly borders and cultures,” said Leron Gubler “His voice has inspired many generations and we are honored to welcome him on our famous Walk of Fame to immortalize his dedicated achievement.”
Assisting Emcee Gubler to unveil the star were guest speakers Singers Graciela Beltran and Tony Melendez. The star ceremony was streamed live on www.walkoffame.com.
Renán has an amazing true story in the history of the entertainment world. He currently has a radio show, El Cucuy De La Manana on Los Angeles XEWW, 690 AM. The show is syndicated across the United States, from Los Angeles to Florida.
For seven years from 1996 through 2009, he successfully delivered a continued run in the first-place within the radio industry in Los Angeles. The unprecedented accomplishment elevated Renán to fame and popularity. His is the most-listened-to voice in radio, and has the highest loyalty of listeners in the history of Los Angeles, with a broadcast track record spanning 24 years.
Born in Honduras, where Renán Almendarez Coello began his radio career at age 15 and moved to the United States in 1982. Renán came to the United States with a dream of becoming a radio personality, repeating the success he tooled in his native country. Due to his astonishing ability to communicate with his audience, Renán’s career sky-rocketed to heights never seen before in some of the most challenging markets in the United States: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
The radio show is a mix of talk, audience calls, jokes and serious life advice. His laugh medicine provides daily doses of remedies for those who are ill and seek hope. His radio show has become an outlet for many Hispanic immigrants who do not have a forum to voice their opinions and express their thoughts.
For more than twenty years, Renán has been one of the top-ranking radio host in the Los Angeles market. His show El Cucuy de la Mañana successfully secured ABC Radio Network Syndication in 20 cities. Renán was named R&R Latin Formats Personality/Show of the Year, 2005. His book: En la Cumbre de la Pobreza (At the Height of Poverty) by HarperCollins Publishers became a best-seller.
Renán’s charisma and persona is not only about entertaining and making people laugh with his unique style of humor. His charitable contributions of time, effort and money have made him as famous as his radio career has proven his star-power status. He used his voice to raise funds in times of natural disasters, as well as successfully raise awareness on campaigns such as on immigration and voter registration. He also wanted to give back to the community and to not forget his humble origins. In 2002, Renán formed the El Cucuy Foundation and opened the El Cucuy Help Center (Centro de Ayuda El Cucuy) to provide help and referrals to thousands of people in Los Angeles. This effort was a natural extension of the charitable work he had been doing for years.

The funds are used to pay for the creation/installation of the star and ceremony, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame.
